*️️️️️️️*️️️️️️️*️️️️️️️ Not planning to have volunteers for the foreseeable future but if you really love us shoot me a message and if anything comes up last minute (sometimes it does) I'll write you *️️️️*️️️️*️️️️
My name is Paolo, I'm the founder of a spiritual community based in Brigthon, UK.
In order to make the most of your stay we have developed a full program of activities and we ask that you commit fully to the program (particularly tea ceremony in the morning and dharma/meditation teaching during the day)
This is a dream.
A dream of beauty.
A dream of friendship.
A dream of creating something higher than our ordinary day-to-day consciousness.
Aristotle said that Beauty, Truth and the Good really are one and the same thing.
It means “The Realm of Beauty”.
We recognise how creating a beautiful environment goes hand-in-hand with performing beautiful (ethical) actions.
We aim to give the gifts of stillness, peace and contentment to anyone visiting us for our events.
They’re gifts, they’re not for sale, everyone is welcome and all events are free, whatever one wishes to donate is secondary.
Imagine: People living together, in the spirit of generosity, beauty and working for the benefit of all, a space for the community to practice and come together socially.
A central focus is the practice of Tea Ceremony and Meditation, which we believe dramatically heightens one’s sensibility and appreciation of Truth – how reality really is, not what we think it is.
Buddhist in inspiration, but everyone is welcome to our events.
There will be a program of weekly and monthly events and residential retreats (sleeps up to 10 people once fully renovated), once a beautiful space is made, we wish to use it!
The building is a lovely house in Brighton on whitehawk hill (just over the royal sussex hospital), very quiet, with dramatic sea views, lots of sunlight and green.
Help in the house
Helping with Tourists
Learn tea ceremony, meditation, buddhism and live a life worth living
We do a tea ceremony/meditation together every day from 7.00 to 9.00 am (longer on weekends)
By end of the week, you will have learnt the basic of tea ceremony and leave with a little kit (bowl and loose leaf tea) to keep the tea ceremony habit with you if you wish
Need an architect quite soon!
We really need help with building, carpentry, plumbing and electrician skills. Expert gardeners as well.
If you have those skills, it may be possible to stay for longer.
Otherwise - priority will be given to those that can really benefit by staying here by giving yourself to the program and wanting to learn about a different way of life
could you please write what you'd like to help us with in your message?
We see work as a spiritual practice, we genuinely enjoy doing it and see real transformation happening.
english, italian, spanish
Dorm room with 2-3 other guests (do not expect private space of much privacy).
We are a vegetarian household (but if you're vegan we can try to eat vegan too, we are trying to move more and more in that direction!)
We try to cook at least one meal to be eaten communally a day, but fruits and snacks are always available
Really we run on generosity - and this informs everything we do.
We try to do work together and spend time together.
Particularly I will personally try to be there to welcome you and do a tea ceremony for you when you arrive and a few more times during your stay.
Depending on my schedule and your interest, I'm also available for meditation instruction and Buddhist study (read a small text or bring a particular topic you're interested in, and we discuss it).
But sometimes circumstances means that you may spend some time alone, so keep this in mind.
We have a (growing) community of people that drop in every once in a while to do some work or just to say hi.
(There will be no meat, fish, alcohol, drugs or cigarettes on the premises.)

We try to live in as simple and close to the Buddhist ideal as possible. Some of what we do or don't do may seem strange to just give it a go, it's only for a week.
Yes Brighton is exciting - but in order for you to get the most of your stay here we ask that you live in a semi-retreat state.
By all means go down to the beach, but if you want to party, go out and drink, have another job (whether live or remote) our community is not the best for you.
Long tea ceremonies, reading, yoga/qigong/dance, guitar playing, walks in nature (both around here and getting out, it's very easy!), meditation, being happy just being, spending time with us and other people talking about the nature of reality are some of most common activities :)
Let me make it even more clear: this is not some sort of happy-go-lucky hostel with random people coming and going in relative anonymity, day in day out.
We're here to change the world by changing ourselves (even if it's painful!) - We're serious about this (and we do have a lot of fun, but always in ethical ways) and we have seen that real transformation can happen.
Unless you really are into this spirit, please don't write us - we get tons of messages and it's not fair to other guests (and the community residents too!) to have someone not committed to our lifestyle.

You're expected to be here for tea ceremony at 7am and any other common activity
We live by the Buddhist 5 precepts and you will be asked to follow them as well while living here:
1. Not killing or causing harm to other living beings. This includes insects and talking about eating meat/fish.
2. Not taking the not-given. Stealing is an obvious way in which one can harm others. One can also take advantage of people, exploit them, or manipulate them. All these can be seen as ways of taking the not given. The positive counterpart of this precept is generosity.
3. Avoiding sexual misconduct. (in some periods, we may practice celibacy as well)
4. Avoiding false, harsh and divisive speech (also SWEARING, even mild is included in this). Speech is the crucial element in our relations with others, and yet language is a slippery medium, and we often deceive ourselves or others without even realising that this is what we are doing.
5. Abstaining from drink and drugs. Keeping Mindfulness.
Not only while at the community, but also while you're outside - for the entire time of your permanence here.
This is because your energy influences everybody else.
Computer, phones and other internet devices are to be kept off at all times as default.
Definitely no music, movies without headphones
5 hours per day 5 days a week (excluding any cooking) and you're expected to participate in all non-work community activities
