Update May 2017: We need a helper from mid January 2018 onwards.
Thank you for your interest in staying and volunteering with us.
We are a well travelled, educated, happy and friendly family with 3 kids living in a semi-rural part of beautiful Waiheke Island, New Zealand.
Waiheke Island is just 45 minutes ferry ride from Auckland City - but it is a "world away" from city life with fantastic beaches, bush walks, great cafes (and awesome coffee!), friendly locals and much more!
Our property is surrounded by farm land, trees and a nature reserve and is 15 minutes walk to world-class Palm Beach for excellent swimming / walks & lots of fresh air! See the pictures we've posted of Waiheke (note these are not all taken from our property!) When you stay with us, you will be so close to a lot of amazing nature, beaches and the local culture.
We are seeking a friendly, independent, confident, happy and responsible girl who speaks reasonable English to assist us with house duties / looking after our kids. Our kids are 5, 8 and 9yrs of age, sweet, fun and creative and (mostly!) well behaved (aren't they all ;-) !
They like to hang out with someone who is fun and relaxed who can enjoy extended playtimes with them, drawing, reading, art projects, playing on the trampoline, playing with toys, spelling games, writing practice, singing, dancing, story time etc - while their mum works (in massage) and their Dad works in the studio located on the property.
We would *️️ideally*️️ like you to stay with us for 3 months (or longer if you can) as this is what we have found works best for our family (shorter stays are of course acceptable, if we have space). We are open to discussion, but priority will be given to applicants who are willing to stay for a longer period - especially high season. You won't be sorry, if you have the time to stay a bit longer with us! You can make friends with a lot of people here, learn about life on an island and explore everything it has to offer!
Waiheke is a very popular destination with travellers from all over the world mixing here! We have had many volunteers stay with us over the years and you can read our reviews to find out what they think!

In exchange for 4 or 5 hours help per day, we offer peaceful, picturesque, private accommodation (shared facilities) and shared meals - we eat healthy, wholesome, local food - semi-vegetarian. Please note that we are very sorry, but we cannot accommodate vegans or people that have food allergies.
When you stay with us, you will gain valuable experience into a busy family life and have an opportunity to develop a wide range of skills, such as creative play, culinary, technical (if you want to help with DIY!) and of course, English :-)
We have had many volunteers stay with us and have had lots of good feedback. After trial and error, we really need someone who is willing to stay for at least one month (longer preferred) because any less is not really fair on our children (who will be your new best friends!) - but this is open to discussion and we understand you might have travel plans - which of course we are happy to give you advice on and be flexible around.
We appreciate someone who is willing to assist with shared living arrangements e.g. prepping food in the kitchen, cooking and some cleaning too (e.g. vacuuming / loading the dishwasher / folding laundry etc). We will discuss all this with you after you contact us.
We can offer travel advice, local knowledge, conversation, travel stories, lots of books, free wifi, evening movies & yummy deserts, outdoor activities, cycling, walks, runs.... and much more! Feel free to get in touch to find out more and ask any questions.
If you are keen, just get in touch. We prefer to Skype with all potential volunteers so that we can cover all of the details with you and make sure both parties are entirely happy. We may also ask for your CV / references.
Clean, dry, comfortable, large caravan with double sized bed overlooking native bush/trees and parkland and situated a short walk away from the house. Shared facilities in the house (use anytime). Heater for Winter stays. Winter is generally mild and temperate and usually lowest temps around 10c - 16c
Bus stop nearby, 15 min walk to cafe or beach. Visit villages, local cinema, restaurants, library, museums, beaches, cafes, vineyards (waiheke vineyards are famous), sports, live music, cycle trails, hiking trails, parks, art galleries, Saturday market and more - Waiheke is amazing and has a lot to offer. We also have a wood burning fire in the house for cozy winter nights.
PLEASE NOTE: To stay and volunteer with us in New Zealand, you will need a valid work visa. We are sorry, but we are unable to make exceptions. You can apply for a Working Holiday Visa details available online via Google (search for nz working holiday scheme)
FINALLY - Please add "Hello Waiheke" as your subject line when contacting us so that we know you've taken the time to read everything - believe me, we do get a lot of emails and we may not read yours if you don't add the heading - thank you ;-)
