    Description

    Dear travelers,
This year, 2021, we have decided not to take any workawayers, since the situation is still very uncertain due to the pandemic.
If things improve, we might reconsider, in which case we will indicate it on our profile calendar.
    Stay safe and healthy!
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Danish/Swedish family on the beautiful Danish island of Bornholm. Peter, who works at the airport, Malene, who has her own clinic of complimentary medicine and a fermentation company, and our son David. Our place is a 1,5 acre hillside property, with ponds, fruit trees, flower beds, lawns, bee hives, two kitchen gardens and a large enclosure for our sheep. We also have chickens, ducks, two cool cats and a sweet dog.

Our goal is to live as organic as possible, and to produce as much of our own food as possible. We are happy to share our knowledge and experiences in that area with you.

  • Help

    Help

We want open minded, hard working people, not afraid to get their hands dirty. We need help with bricklaying and plastering of walls and hotbeds in the garden. Digging and weeding of kitchen garden. Cutting and splitting firewood. Painting. Repairing and putting up fences (both for the sheep and the chickens.) Building greenhouses. Building wooden bee hives. Pruning fruit trees. General maintenance, house cleaning and animal care. It is a big advantage if you know permaculture principles, since we would like in-put on how to plan our property. Also experience with organic or biodynamic beekeeping is an advantage.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will stay in our cosy wooden housewagon next to our house, with outdoor toilet and shower. Mostly, you will be able to use the bathroom in our next door summerhouse. This depends on weather, schedule etc. We will provide breakfast every day, and we will be sharing our lunch (around noon) and dinner (around 18.00, or 6 pm) with you.

We keep our house private, though we mostly share meals together in the kitchen.

We are not vegetarians, but we do not eat meat every day. However, let us know if you do not want to eat meat and we will try to work it out. If you have special needs, like allergies, you will have to provide the necessary products yourself, if we are not able to provide them. We expect you to help with preparation of meals and with cleaning up afterwards.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We live in a quiet, rural area, not far from the beach. The island offers many outdoor activites, such as kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, biking, rock climbing, scenic walks, etc. There is also music and culture, but do not expect as many opportunities as in a Big City. The island is also known for the abundance of archeological finds and for its growing culinary focus. There is big seasonal variation in activities, with June-September being the busiest time.
There are busses servicing the island, and they run every one-two hours on the main road north of our house (5 min walk) depending on the season. If we have time, we can take you to some of the places you want to go. If you want, you can borrow bikes for day trips.
Sometimes we can take you out on a trip, to see the island. Depending on our work/social calendar. But we also expect you to seek activities and possibilities on your own Initiative. We will happily help you on logistics etc.
We are non-smokers. You are not allowed to smoke on our property or in the cottage. We do not accept drug use of any kind. We accept small amounts of alcohol.

You are free to stay up as long as you want, as long as the house can be quiet after 8 o´clock due to our son´s bed time and as long as your activities are not disturbing to the main house and as long as you are ready to help the next day (if it is not your day off…)

Our household is non-religious, but we accept private beliefs and practices. We expect you to be tolerant and respectful towards people and animals alike.

Since we produce much of our food ourselves and keep both sheep, chickens and ducks, you have to be prepared to witness or know of killing of animals as a part of life on our property. We make every effort to end an animals life as humane as possible.

While you are here, let us know if there are any problems or if the work or the experience as a whole is not what you expected. That way we can try to solve any problems that may arise. We will also let you know if there are any issues, such as not following rules or not completing work assignments. We will make an effort to solve problems, as we expect you will, but if we cannot find a solution, we will unfortunately have to ask you to leave.

Bring working clothes and good footwear, such as rubber boots, since you will be dealing with soil, compost, wood and other materials, as well as with animals.
