  • Description

We own a free range pig farm. Our property is organic certified and we produce pork, beef and goat and sell direct to customers and butchers. Kim and Lucy and their son Edmund and permanent worker Mick are part of this dynamic and growing business. We can guarantee that you will be fed well!

Kim and Lucy run a free range pig operation, but also run a cattle herd and have other animals like chickens, ducks, sheep and goats. We manage our land and animals using organic principles and are working towards an “almost” sustainable lifestyle. We have a vegie garden and eat our own home grown meat, vegies, eggs and milk (and yoghurt and feta). Lucy likes to cook from scratch and fully believes in the Slow Food Movement.

We need help with feeding the pigs and other animals and other general farm chores, gardening and some kitchen duties. You may also be required to do some house cleaning.

No experience is needed, a desire to learn is required and we will teach you everything else you may need to know and more! We would welcome you into our home as we think that being "part of the family" is important in developing a good working relationship.

  • Accommodation

Accommodation is in separate quarters but you will need to share facilities with our permanent staff member - we only have double bed available so can have 1 or 2 people depending on if you are willing to share a double bed.

Laundry and internet is provided. We exchange your time helping with your accommodation and some great food.

We would like you to stay at least two-three weeks, but if everything goes well you can stay longer. We pick up and drop off to Rockhampton. Please consider coming to Central Queensland - it's the halfway point between Brisbane and Cairns so a good place to stop over.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Our farm is a place where you will learn so many things and will be encouraged to experience a life that you will find very different to what you may have expected or experienced so far in Australia. So if you are sick of hanging out in backpacker hostels and want to refuel body and mind, this could be the place for you!

From all the various farm jobs to working with animals, to producing and cooking food. It will all be new and interesting. Our lifestyle has had a positive effect on all our past helpers. We enjoy having people here and they seem to enjoy it too.

If you would you like to learn about sustainable farming and would like to know how to produce and prepare food from the ground up, then this is the place for you! So even though we can't sign off on the second year visa, our farm is a great place to stay for a few weeks (or longer) where you won't need to spend any money and will be well looked after.
