    Description

    Hello,
My partner Todd and I have 60 acres (50 ha) of land and we run a holistic horses rehabilitation livery yard, based on barefoot, bitless, track system methods. We have a baby son (born 2020) and live on the top of Okaihau hill in Northland, just a short drive to the forest pools, bush walks, the cycle way and only 25 minutes from the Bay of Islands.

We would like to offer an internship with horses. Come and join us for a natural horsemanship experience! Learn to get along with horses and live with the land and farm animals. You will learn how to run a sustainable, biodynamic farm, grow and prepare your own vegetables and meat, the basics of horsemanship and animal care, the basics of trimming hooves, raising cows, sheep and chooks, and much more. Riding lessons are available once a week.

As there are a lot of things to do and learn on the farm and therefore it takes some time to get comfortable, we prefer people who are interested in our way of living and would like to stay for a longer period of time like 3-4 months.

Please message me for more information on the internship.

There is lots to learn on the farm. We run a holistic horse rehabilitation livery yard, based on barefoot, bitless, track system methods. Riding is available a few days per week if you already have some basic skills and are willing to stay for at least a month to get enough time to spend with the horses. I can offer a lesson in riding and ground work per week.

    What else ...

We are only 25 minutes from the Bay of Islands, beaches, and walks. The Bay of Islands is at the heart of Northland. We are 10 minutes from the forest pools and bush walks. To name just a few beaches around here that are excellent for surfers, there is 90 Mile Beach, Shipwreck's Bay, Matouri Bay and Taupo Bay, etc. You can find many sights and monuments of Maori culture here. Kaitaia and Whangarei (bigger cities of the north) are both around 1 hours drive away. Rugby is New Zealand's national sport and part of its culture - Okaihau has its own rugby team and you are invited to watch their games.
