    Description

We run a small stud farm in Co. Tipperary and we specialise in preparing thoroughbred yearlings for International Horse sales. We also breed foals and we are coming to the end of our breeding season (mid January to mid May)- mares having foals and bringing mares to Stud.
The day starts with mucking out stables in the morning, which takes a couple of hours and feeding mares and foals and handling yearlings. Occasionally if a horse is injured it will need to be bandaged, injected and be confined to the stables.
The yearling preparation time starts the end of July and goes till end of September - until the sale times.

If you are willing to help you will need to be experienced and confident with horses - our horses are thoroughbred horses, they are very powerful and can be unpredictable, they are bred for racing. They are beautiful animals, once they are given respect, in return they will give you lots of pleasure and plenty of exercise !We prefer if you can stay for at least 3 months.
We cannot offer you horse riding on our farm as we don't ride the horses.

Our stud farm is in a small quiet village which is 5 miles /8km from the towns of Cashel and Cahir -both towns have a great bus service to Dublin city (approx. 2 hours away) Cork city (approx. 1 hour away) and Waterford , Limerick and Kilkenny cities(approx. 1 hour away).

We live in a beautiful and scenic part of rural Ireland - the area is called the Golden Vale, beautiful picturesque countryside, good green land and also considered to be the home of horse racing country. Ballydoyle Race Stables is 3 miles from us and Coolmore Stud farm is about 6 miles from us !
If you come to help us on our stud farm you will have the opportunity to attend thoroughbred horse sales in Europe - this is a unique , interesting and an exciting experience. You will learn how a small thoroughbred stud farm operates.
Cashel and Cahir are very historic towns - both approximately 5 miles/8km away, with the Rock of Cashel and Cahir Castle there.
We will help you get to places you want to visit and any hobbies or pastimes you enjoy, we will encourage.

You will be required for stable duties including mucking out, grooming, feeding, handling, holding and walking the horses. Other chores would be general upkeep around the stud farm.
We need help during the Spring -March,April,May while our mares are foaling and we need you to stay with us for a minimum of at least 2 months - as we will train you on the skills of handling thoroughbred horses and this takes 4-6 weeks.
We are very busy from the end July till the end of September for the preparation of yearlings for the Yearling Sales at the end of September and early October.
