    Description

Looking for skilled, eager, creative and capable volunteers!

Come form part of a dream team for 4 - 6 weeks, as you offer your time and knowledge in exchange for natural living experience.

Welcome —a vibrant homesteading community spread across the 180-hectare farm where the centrally located 'Hill' as we call it, serves as our bustling hub, host events and courses, welcome occasional guests, and provide homes for long-term residents. Here, you'll find beautiful natural buildings for accommodation, event hosting, courses, and retreats, nestled among lush food forests and gardens.

Our mission? To provide a space where people can unwind, reconnect, and nourish their body, mind, and spirit amidst nature's embrace.

We are still growing into a balanced and ecologically sound eco-village that is supportive, connected, multi-generational, family-friendly, and finds meaning and enjoyment in living in harmony with each other and nature.

Off-grid and natural living is our joy!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Our secluded and peaceful location allows travellers to reconnect with nature and enjoy a break from the sometimes frantic fast "concrete jungle" life, to eat organic food grown on the farm and to create and build with natural materials as much as possible while living with others in a community format. There is the potential to learn about various aspects of our lives such as permaculture, natural farming and earth building but this might not be happening all the time, so please contact us before to avoid unrealistic expectations.
There is also the opportunity to co-create social activities such as meditation, talks, dance and yoga in the Ubuntu hall. We invite you to revive and regenerate your soul on the path of self-discovery and awakening towards a more peaceful, joyful, abundant, conscious way of living while experimenting with living in community and immersing in nature.

    Help

Currently, we are seeking assistance from capable and skilled volunteers who possess knowledge and experience in various tasks, including:

    Maintenance and handyman skills.
Food production in our gardens, which involves planting seeds, watering, weeding, and harvesting food for farm use.
Propagating and transplanting indigenous trees and shrubs.
Natural building techniques such as cob construction, wattle and daub, woodwork, and painting (at times so don't expect to have this all year round and first communicate with us if you want to come to learn something specific)
Assisting with the daily needs of looking after our space and your own needs
Participating in community initiatives and activities (reforestation, social gatherings, community activities)
There's always something new and exciting happening here , ensuring there's never a dull moment!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Accommodations consist of basic rooms in a rondavel (traditional Xhosa huts) or room in our far house, complete with bedding. Kindly remember to bring your own towel. We offer hot water showers utilizing a donkey system (water heated by a fire) and compost toilets.

In our shared kitchen spaces, we maintain a vegetarian environment out of consideration for those who abstain from meat. We kindly request visitors not to bring meat onto the farm, although we do offer a separate cooking space for those that need meat in their diet. Volunteers have the opportunity to dine together, and once a week, we share a bring & share communal dinner with the wider community.

We provide a wide range of staple foods (lentils, mung beans, rice, pasta, sorghum, spices and fresh garden produce) for your meals and you are requested to add your own needs to compliment this. Once a week, there's an opportunity to accompany someone to town for necessities. However, as we are not in close proximity to shops, please come prepared upon your arrival.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

In your off time you may want to explore the many paths around the 180-ha farm where you will come across interesting wild animal and bird life; dig into our intriguing collection of books; swim in the dam; visit the beach (8km away) engage in yoga, dance, meditation or any spiritual practice that you wish. We are open to and very much encourage new ideas so please feel free to initiate any activities that you would like to do such as crafting, painting, yoga, dance, etc

We are a small community that shares this space and volunteers are very special to us, we value your help and friendship. The farm work is mostly physical and can be demanding but is extremely rewarding. Chop wood, and carry water is our mantra!

In this phase of renovation and renewal, we specifically look for long-term volunteers who have handyman skills, building experience, gardening skills and who are physically fit and capable of manual work, creative spirits for painting and beautification of rooms and communal spaces as well as social outgoing people to be part of all aspects of our lives!
