** Sorry, we are not taking volunteers at the moment.
We are a Japanese / English family of five who returned to Japan to run a traditional guesthouse for a year and set up projects and residentials around food, sustainability, music and theatre. We decided to stay on for another year and are setting up a programme of events.
We live in a traditional kayabuki (thatched house) which is very typical of the area.
Our house is located in Kanbayashi on the outskirts of Ayabe city, it is a very rural area in the mountains. Kanbayashi is known for viewing fireflies in June.
Near the house there are walks up the mountain and to the site of a castle (no longer there unfortunately). There is also an onsen nearby with a rotenboro (outdoor bath) with lovely views over the mountains, which is about 30-40 mins walk away.

We will provide all your meals which will be a mixture of Japanese and western food. Let us know if you have any special dietary requirements.
You can get to Ayabe city by train from Kyoto station (takes approx 2.5hrs or 1 hr by express train) or I believe there is a night bus from Tokyo.
There are buses from Ayabe station to Kanbayashi, we can usually pick you up from the bus stop.
