    Description

    Hello Workawayers!

WELCOME TO NGERI, beautiful village next to Lake Victoria. My name is JACOB, the sponsor and director of the local football association here in my community in Ngeri village, in suba District. Our community started this league 8 years ago, in an effort to bring organized football to our community , thus bringing them together in the process of uniting our people and nation. Therefore I do my best for the community and my people.

We believe in the power of the community and nature: our project is looking for volunteers that would like to be part of it. Our main focus at this time is on sustainable infrastructure, food program, agriculture and empowering our community through making a good examples and sharing a sustainability skills. Our current projects are:
    1. Empowering women.
    2. Empowering youths and children.
    3. Food program for children.
    4. Sports and games.

    - Our permaculture farm :

We already have a food forest and would like to use it for demonstration , keyhole garden, banana circles .

    - Education project :

We recently start a project with 1 school of the community. 3 objectives through this initiative :
    1) Transforming Ngeri village into a more sustainable.
    2) Protecting Ngeri natural resources
    3) Improving children’s on environment awareness .

The project consists in setting up a different permaculture project in the school (a nursery, a food forest, a keyhole garden and a banana circle) in order to teach kids what permaculture is and show them that they can have access to diversified fresh food quite easily if they work and share with the community about this.

Because dealing with plastic is also an issue on our community, we introduced Eco Bricks in the schools program. The first step is to make sure that all schools of the program make Eco Bricks, thanks to the plastic collected by the kids. The second step will include the constructions that we can create with these Eco Bricks, in order to build low cost furnitures, useful for the community.

    - Women empowerment :

We started training few women in Ngeri. We divide them into 2 teams. The first four will be helping in permaculture in our four schools. The second four will be helping making dress.
We are training them and from next year January we start working with them. According to our plan on permaculture gallery, they will help us to work on the project schools for sustainability. The goal of this project is that children in the schools learn about permaculture and environment through these women.

We are primarily looking for travellers with some football experience that can help work with and train the children in one or more of our teams (ages 12-19). Although, we do offer other volunteering opportunities, like organic farming and youth empowerment sessions, teaching in pre-, primary and secondary school, in case you're looking for some diversity during your time here on the Ngeri community. Please don't hesitate to contact me directly about our other opportunities, or any questions you may have, about our community Kenya in general.

We would like you to help train the players, and perhaps bring new perspectives on practices and drills, coaching, health and fitness, and program operations. We would also appreciate assistance in spreading our fundraising campaign via social media, as we are currently lacking some important resources.

We also organize sports like dancing, acrobats, boat racing in our tournaments together with women sports.

We are looking to raise money for food programs, balls, jerseys, field maintenance, and maybe one day down the road, wells, even some cleats for our players.

You will find that our community is incredibly welcoming to foreigners, and that the kids and adults will love to work with you. Your involvement will certainly not go unappreciated within our community.
