    Description

We run a small and independant Trail Riders Hotel including the keeping of our own horses (3 head), mules (3 head) and big donkeys (2 head) in the higher part of Eifel, a remote landscape in Germanys Far West, located between the cities of Bonn, Kolblenz, Trier and Aachen.
The farm where we live is located on the edge of a small village and dates back to the 13th century. The today existing buildings including our house date from the 17th and 18th century, they are half-timbered houses with modern sustainable technology (woodgas-powered heating, solar power).
Our house has three storeys and a useful surface of app. 200 squaremeters with 5 bedrooms, enough space though for guests, workawayers and us.
Our three horses' age ranges from 10 to 31 years and they all require an experienced rider, but one mule standing as high as the horses can be ridden by beginners. Our donkeys reach the size of an Islandic Horse but they are not ridden, we hitch them to a buggy.
Our two dogs (German Shepard-Mix and mixed-blood from Belgium) are members of the family and live in the house. They are very docile and cuddly.
There are also three cats living in the house.
We also have 4 chicken - outside the house of course, and most times have eggs from them.
A race driver from Scotland called the nearby Nuerburgring Car Racetrack in the 1970s a "Green Hell" (so difficult and dangerous to drive). This expression still sticks to our landscape, consisting of huge beech forests, lush green meadows, hidden creeks in small valleys and many rocky peaks of volcanic origin. Of course there is no devil around....

The surrounding cities like Cologne, Bonn, Koblenz and Trier were all founded by the Romans about 2.000 years ago, and still today they all are vibrant cutural hotspots, worth a visit.
Nice contrast to all that nature around at our place

We are always eager to show our guests - even working guests - the nature and the very old cultural heritage of our region, like hidden ruins of castles in our huge forests that only few people know about......

The daily work to do consists of animal chores, looking after the the fences. From April till December the animals are on the pastures the daily work is less, mainly mowing under the electric fences and filling water tanks, from Chrismas till Eastern (or so) two daily hours are requiered for mucking out shelters and paddocks (we do not have box stalls) and feeding twice a day.
Additionally there is the training of the animals that we do ourselves and for this a helping hand is always welcome.

Our Trail Riders' Hotel has few booking, all these activities we are paid are done by ourselves and are for are NOT for volonteers (according to Workaway Regulations), but they are invited to share the good company of our often interesting visitors.

    What else ...

For those who get a little tired of all that nature it is only 2 km to the town of Adenau where one can find a little entertainment like pubs and shopping, mainly during the summer month when there is a lot going on at the nearby Nürburgring Race Track.
