Description
Deep in the tropical, virgin jungle of Sarawak (the bigger Malaysian state in Borneo), where countless flora and fauna still aren´t proper identified, me and my lovely wife Wendy developing an exotic and peaceful homestay.
I´m a Lun Bawang (local tribe) and as a conservationist and environmental activist I give my heart to defend the nature to keep it in the way it is.
We´re living isolated on the top of a mountain, which gives you the real jungle experience. Every morning we can hear the gibbons in the near and birds like hornbills and eagles share this place as their home with us. This is also the home of some of the "big guys" clouded leopards, Sun bears to name a few. We´re accessible by 4 WD and trekking, it´s a 15 minutes-ride down to the valley Buduk Nur, Ba Kelalan, where we go twice or three times a week or whenever it´s needed. There are some shops which sells basic food and stuff (good to bring important items already with you), an airport as well, which MASwings (local Airline) connects with Lawas and Bario (also possible to fly from Miri with a stop in Lawas).
People who love jungle-tranquility (it´s getting really dark in the night after we switch off our generator, don´t forget to bring a torch with you) and jungle-trekking will found a heaven in here.
Actual we have four lovely dogs and two nice cats, all found in a bad constitution and now living a happy life in here. Our life is much influenced from Country Music and we´re keen to learn about different cultures. I also have a huge interest in 4WD Offroad-activities.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

I´m belonging to the Lun Bawangs, which is the local tribe in this region. We´re known for our hospitality and while you´re staying you can learn a lot about our culture.
You can also expand your language skills and learn Bahasa Malaysia and also you can learn where to find food in the jungle, from which Wendy will make a great dish out of it, while she often uses her chinese cooking skills.
In general, our volunteers can learn a lot in the jungle, as longer you stay, as much more you can get of this knowledge.Aide
Most kind of work is construction and gardening-work. So volunteers who are good with building, gardening and carpentry are most welcome. After a while, I've explored my territories. I'm more focused on wildlife conservation and anything that is acociated with nature. Am more interested on gps maping. There´s always something to do, just keep your eyes and hands open and everybody will find it´s way to help.

Is an open indoor-tent-consept type of shelter, one so unique that you´ll find it amazing. If prefered we have another separate cabin "the tropical jungle farm cabin" at the farm totally on your own at a separate location about 1.7km from the actual hide out. Temperatures can drop to 6.9°c at night, so tents, mattresses, pillows and sleeping bags are provided, but make sure you´ll bring some warm clothes with you. The bathrooms have cold water and western toilet. This kind of accomodation will give you the real jungle experience, our volunteers loves to live so close to the nature.
My place can accommodate 18 pax at any one time, but soon there will be more space and a kind of more adventurous tent consept.Autres infos...
Volunteers are free to do as they wish and exploring during leasures. You can visit nearby local villages where you can mingle freely with local communities and experience different ethnic culture and events.
The rice-harvesting time in the paddy fields is from end of December till end of January, a Thanksgiving do for a bounty harvest will be celebrated in conclusion in end of January. There is also an annual food festival celebrated by our close neighbours, where loads of local delicacies, exotic foods, cultural performances and a lot more is portrayed.
There are great trekking possibilities in the near like to the summit of Mount Murud, the highest mountain in Sarawak or to Bario, which is minimum a three-days-adventure. Also around my place there are some possibilities to do some jungle-trekking. You can even experience real 4WD adventures, when I´m taking my 4WD for a spin all over the places.
For those volunteers who are keen in travelling during weekends, I can arrange for a short visit to the neighbouring countries like Brunei Darussalam and Kalimantan in Indonesia. Otherwise visiting nearest town for groceries and to connect to the outside world on weekends in Lawas in Sarawak, Labuan island or Kota Kinabalu in Sabah. I´m also proposing to set up jungle survival training or outward bound training.
Walk barefoot- to explore the real jungle! :)Informations complémentaires
