    Description

    Hello Workawayers!

We are looking for Workaways for a work exchange at our our unique, off grid, rustic non-profit campground - located in breathtakingly, beautiful Squamish, BC. We are a newer campground - started in 2018 by two West Coast Canadian outdoors-men!

We need assistance with cleaning, outdoor maintenance, and hosting international campers. We aim to run a low cost campground to support outdoors people coming to our beautiful area to explore the adventures and activities.

Truly, Squamish is Canada's 4 season- outdoor recreation capital. So many things to do here: we're located in a CLIMBING Mecca!!

Our location is incredible, we are situated along the amazing Mamquam River just a short bike ride away from everything. Our non-profit campground was completely built by volunteers! Even though we are in the city limits of Squamish you would never know it by the forest that surrounds us, the wildlife, and of course the Mamquam River running near us.

We designed our campsite to provide budget friendly campsite for outdoorsy people enjoying the many many outdoor adventure activities in the Squamish Area. We are committed to sustainability, environmental harmony and no trace camping. We are a rustic campground with no fancy RV services (no water!). The vast majority of our guests are outdoors focused folks who want an authentic Canadian camping experience in an amazing, convenient location.

Living accommodation is either in a bed in a van, or a tent space (bring your own tent if you can please, and let us know if you can't bring a tent and sleeping bag so we can figure out a solution).

All are welcome! We are a friendly group ready to provide the real, authentic Canadian experience to all those who join us!

The Campground Managers are Sarah and Tessa . John is the brains, muscle, creativity, and inspiration behind the campground - You'll likely meet him on a hiking/paddling trip, and he's often working on his own projects at the campground. He'll be happy to share stories and chat about his history and the campground dream!

You will get a chance to experience and create a unique camping experience for our guests in a beautiful, natural setting. Volunteering with us will provide a chance to meet, interact and hang out with people from all over the world. Our campground has a mixed demographic of 50% Canadian guests, and 50% coming from around the world. You will learn about the operation and maintenance of a campground and about Leave No Trace ethics.

After a day of interesting work nothing is better than sitting around a campfire built with wood that you have processed from dead trees on our property and talking to people from around the world (and Canadians too!) This opportunity is a fantastic cultural experience for your visit to Canada.

We will be providing a converted campervan for your stay (based on availability and is first come first served :) ), so you can see if you like the very popular #vanlife. Or we have tent sites for you to use if you want an authentic camping experience.

'Hosting" duties are ongoing, everyday, where you'll be greeting guests during check-in, and directing newly arrived guests to their site. We aim to offer 'Five Star Service' by providing our guests a memorable, safe, clean and friendly experience during their stay in our non-profit campground. If you think you have skills we could use let us know!

Daily, cleaning of outhouses and dish wash station. As well as daily garbage collection, and collection and sorting of drink containers is required. Janitorial and or cleaning experience is helpful, as we need our outhouses sparkling clean, and the dish washing station neat and tidy.

Chopping, moving and stacking firewood happens once or twice a year and is a team effort!

There is the opportunity to split 5 hour shits into two "chunks" so that you may be out and active in the warmest (perhaps the best part) of the mid-day.

Although hosting and cleaning are the main roles - There's a lot of variety in the outdoor tasks we require and some flexibility depending on your skills and interests.

We have two options, which are first come first served: two cool #vanlife camper vans that sleep two. We also have a tent site, and a hammock area in the works. We have a camp stove for you to cook with a refrigerator, and electricity (in Workaway areas only, rest of the campground is off grid). We are well suited for couples/friends that can share a bed. We also have #vanlife sites too.

We will reimburse grocery bills up to $125/week, so the Workawayers can prepare themselves their favourite food!

Squamish is centrally located in the beautiful 'Sea To Sky' Corridoor between Whistler and Vancouver (about an hour either way), and it is easy to access public transport options. Local city transit is very close to our location so you don't need a car. Most people bike or walk to places. We provide some bikes. We are also located a 10 minute walk away from the local community centre where there is a very nice swimming pool, steam sauna and hot showers.

Squamish is the outdoor adventure capital of Canada. Rock Climbing, Bouldering, Mountaineering, Hiking, Slacklining, Kite Surfing, Downhill Mountain biking, Fishing, Sea Kayaking, River Kayaking, Canoeing, Skiing, Foraging for native plants and many many more outdoor focused activities year round. The average age in Squamish is 36 years old! It is a small town of 22,000 people with some great local breweries, cideries, pubs, restaurants, local shops and vintage stores and people that are very friendly to enjoy them with.

We love living here for the amazing mountain views that surround our town. Our location is on Howe Sound with easy access to Whistler or Vancouver, and yet completely unique to either of those places. We know you will enjoy it as much as we do!
