Happy chaos on our family run farm! I have a wonderful young adult son and High School age daughter. My daughter has taken French in school, I have a little rusty Spanish. We have a busy working farm with 20 horses, 10 head of cattle, three dogs and four cats. We live on a gorgeous island in the Pacific Northwest, have a wonderful extended family, and are always doing something! Several years ago we hosted an exchange student from Germany and realized how much we enjoy making friends from all over. We have since traveled to Europe and Asia. I work several jobs, one being a riding instructor and we all ride. My son and I mostly western, and driving, my daughter loves English and jumping as well. We are in our 4th (I think) year of hosting Workawayers and we have found that sharing our farm life and meeting new people from all over while getting a whole lot done has been great!! We are so thankful for all the wonderful people we have met and look forward to continuing.

Help in the house
We have quite a few people come to learn more about and spend time with horses. It is wonderful to see a rider improve, or have a chance to try a discipline they have never attempted before. We also have many non-horse people come, those who want to just be around animals, or be out in nature enjoying it and working hard. One wonderful moment was seeing someone pick an apple from a tree for the first time, so it isn't all animals here.
Culturally we enjoy learning about how things are done other places and sharing our ways with others. We love to re-purpose things and appreciate learning new ways to make the most of what we have.
There is always something that needs done around here! So, with that in mind anything from helping keep the house clean, to picking in season fruit, to barn chores, construction, you name it! Someone who sees that something needs done and takes the initiative to ask how and do it is great! Someone with horse care and riding knowledge would be a very fun guest, but not required. I never seem to get to cleaning out the flower beds, or vacuuming the car, and anyone can wash dishes. A willing attitude and a great work ethic, is a winner here........oh, and an awesome sense of humor too!
Some project ideas:
making a container garden area
Building Fence (hey, this is a farm!)
Pruning apple trees
Keeping the house organized
taking over meals
Anything that has to do with horses........
English, a little Spanish/German/French
We have varied options for accommodation. Our house is a large farmhouse dating from the turn of the century, and we do have a dedicated quest room. We also have a large attic with a rollaway bed. More adventurous? The covered upstairs porch is nice in the summer, or if you want to try camping out we have a huge yard with an orchard and pond.
We are located in a rural area with beaches, biking, hiking, and a great community. If you want to see cities, both Canada and Seattle are accessible. Seasonal Kayak rentals and whale watch tours, farmers Market. Learn about sustainable agriculture, family farms, and share our simple but rich lifestyle! One of my goals is simply how to do the most with what is available, using common sense and hard work. If that interests you, let's talk!
*️️️️️️We are a drug, alcohol, and smoke free home.*️️️️️️
*️️️️️️You must have your own insurance and be willing to sign a Hold Harmless to ride horses, riding is limited by both your ability and my availability*️️️️️️
