Description
SOON: late April, early May, we'd like help cleaning up the grounds around the house and removing downed trees on the forest trails.:
Cabin in the woods, on a small lake, across the river in Quebec just 35 minutes from the Parliament buildings in Ottawa -- this is where Laurie and David live. We are well travelled but we love our peaceful setting here in the woods beside the lake, and would welcome the opportunity to share it with one or two young visitors. Each spring and fall, we must clear our hiking trails through the forest, and do some clean up of fallen branches. It's a nice time of year here to work outdoors.Types of help and learning opportunities

In addition to our present chosen lifestyle in the woods, we also bring to the mix a background of working in the far North, among the Inuit, and stories of our extensive travels in the Arctic. David is a writer, who has published ten books and hundreds of magazine articles, mostly about the North, its history, its people and their land. Laurie is a lawyer working for the Inuit of Nunavut.
Help
Generally, we appreciate help with mostly outdoor projects: maintaining the garden, splitting firewood, clearing and marking the hiking trails in our 75 acres of bush, and the like. All fun outdoor stuff. No particular skills required, just a willingness to do some work, while enjoying a sojourn in the woods and the opportunity to share our lifestyle.

Our house has a guest room, with twin beds, and your own full bathroom with shower. So you will have privacy when you want it, but are welcome to enjoy the rest of the house (including the TV room) with us when you wish. Normally, we will relax in the evenings and take our meals together. Visitors will be expected to share in the kitchen duties, preparation and clean-up of meals. We will provide all food and lots of it!
What else ...
We would also arrange for visitors to have some free time in the city if they wish, or to take one of our canoes and go for a paddle through our chain of lakes.

It was our favorite volunteering experience. We felt very comfortable from the beginning.
David and Lorie are very nice people with whom we always shared a good time.
We had to prepare the evening meal, and we helped David to do some small work outside.
We recommend this Workaway
