    Description

\\\ SEARCHING FOR THE MONTH OF JULY 2021 FOR GARDEN AND FROM SEPTEMBER FOR 2/3 MONTHS FOR CONSTRUCTION \\\ This project is a newly founded community cultural arts project called provding different activities connected to art and culture to the local community by exchange. The project is located in an area with a big alternative scene, portuguese and foreigners, living here connected to topics such as permaculture, art, music, healing practices, living in harmony with nature, alternative education etc. so there is a lot to discover!

In our place you can experience coliving with communal activities such as lunching together, making a trip to the beautiful river Alva nearby or having a movie night. We love spending time together, to engage in cultural activities and share and learn from each other. We try to provide the space for each idividuals needs and welcome the gifts each can bring. We welcome diversity, freedom of expression and practice inclusiveness.

We are looking for help for the month of July in our permaculture garden since our current volunteer will be gone in this time as well as for a volunteer from September on to help with the construction of a building which will be transformed into a visual arts studio for the arts residencies.

I am an early retired teacher who moved from Lisboa to the countryside into a small familly farm, composed of a beautiful vivenda from the 63's surrounded by 1ha of land. I am ready to receive working visitors from all parts of the world in a reciprocal respectful way. My childhood was spent here, I know places and people both portuguese and foreigners. From the windows of the building one can have a beautiful perspective of the magnificent serra do Açor, getting green and greener after the big fires. The village is in the centre of Portugal, near Coimbra, Viseu, Guarda (60km) and close to historical villages and farming sites, both owned by portuguese or foreigners - who in themselves are a vivid vision of the alternative ways of life that Portugal offers.

If the helping visitor is interested in learning or practicing Portuguese s/he is in the right spot as the host was a language teacher many years. You can benefit from the Portuguese culture, by learning local recipes and ways of cooking including the use of traditional ovens. We collaborate with a nearby association which works with non formal education and give support to home schooling. We also host dance activities and classes in our space, by donation. The region has been welcoming artists with many skills and helping visitors can also network with them... they love it! Moreover, our place is actively developing and promoting well-being, environmental and intergenerational activities with the local communities.
Parallel to this project, we are developing an artistic project where we will host and receive national and international artists for long or medium stays in artistic residencies. 3 artistic studios will be rebuilt until 2022/23. As we are starting, we welcome all potential interested people to help the construction of this project.

All working visitors can choose from a variety of experiences depending on their interests. If one is keen on nature there is much to explore, including river beaches in the nearby... If preferences go to country life choices vary from traditional farming and animal breading to multicultural experiences, including traditional, alternative and second hand markets. One can also start by visiting historical towns full of vernacular architecture and life and contemporary activities. Longer travels can take you to more complex towns or even to the capital (3,30 hours away by bus). If the helping visitor is interested in learning or practicing Portuguese s/he is in the right spot for the host was a language teacher many years.
In the village there is also a place that is dedicated to a weekly meditation practice and that promotes Buddhist retreats by donation.
In case you are coming from outside Portugal, from Lisbon you should reach through subway the bus station Sete Rios. From there you should catch a bus with direction to "Gouveia", and leave at the stop "CATRAIA DE MORONHO" (the closest to Barril de Alva). This bus leaves Lisbon 3 times a day. The host will personally pick you up by car. You can check the bus schedule "Lisbon - Gouveia".
