Please, READ EVERYTHING before messaging! Thanks :)

Due to the incredible amount of responses I receive, I am unable to reply to all messages, however, if it sounds like you could be a good fit & we are in need of a workawayer during the dates you are traveling, I WILL reply!

We are seeking you if: You are 1 responsible human who enjoys spending time with others, you plan on spending at least 1 month in Brooklyn, NY, you're female (we're a house of nearly all women at the moment), you love interacting with people and helping them feel at home, you enjoy cleaning up and keeping things tidy, you can live with a cat, and you have digital media skills (we have a blog that I'd love for you to contribute to!). Does this sound like you? Then read on below! If after reading our profile, you feel like this may be a good fit, then follow the directions at the bottom of the post.

Hi there! About me and my project:
I am a young woman, living in Brooklyn for the past 8 years. This community project was born nearly 5 years ago out of my own struggle to find an affordable and safe place to call home when I first arrived in NYC. For the past 4+ years I have been hosting housemates from all over the world who are in New York to study, intern, and explore. We aim to build community, share culture, and embrace diversity.

We all share rooms - when we are completely full, 10 people and 1 cat call this place home. The room that you'll be staying in is sunny & spacious, shared with up to 3 other young women, adult bunk style. check out some of the pictures for a better idea. Everyone living here is here for a minimum of a month and in New York to pursue some purpose. Please note we are not a hostel or a party house, but a home :)

I am looking for some extra help because I recently started a full time job and I have much less time to devote to the place. I work for a non-profit where I teach NYC school students how to build working sailboats. When I'm not at work, you can find me volunteering, learning to swing-dance, on a hike, or (most often) working to make our project even better!

    Who I’m looking for:
Currently, we have an extra spot in our girls' room, and I would love to have another workawayer come and stay for at least 1 month and help out. Please note this position is for a female only - simply because that’s where I have space right now!

I am looking for someone reliable & friendly who wants to explore New York. Our number one house rule is “respect” and all of our other rules stem from that. I know I will meet a workawayer who will respect the other housemates, our neighbors, and the space.

How I expect you to contribute:
    - General cleaning (sweeping, vacuuming, tidying up, etc.)
    - Organizing house events (we have movie nights, house dinners, outings etc.)
    - Cooking dinner (1-2 nights a week)
    - Blogging/Vlogging/Social Media (I created a website and a blog last summer, but haven't had time to keep up with it, I'm looking for someone who is really excited to blog/vlog about their time in New York and update the squarespace website and blog, are you a YouTuber? please mention that in your reply!!)
    - If you have another skill that you'd like to share please let me know!
You can expect to spend a maximum of 24 hours per week contributing, but it will probably be more like 15-20 or even less, depending on the week.

Interested? We're looking for someone from July 7 - August 15! Follow the directions below to be considered:

Send me a message with a bit about yourself and how you envision contributing, your experience in shared living environments, your social media links so I can learn a bit more about you, and why you think you'd be a good fit here. Once I receive your email, you can expect to receive an email back with a bit more info and a link to our application!

The place is filled with people from all over the world who are in New York to pursue different goals and dreams. Although I can't predict all the particulars you'll gain from this experience, I will say that the people who move in as strangers leave as friends. NYC has so much to offer when it comes to culture, art, and adventure. I'm happy to provide advice on what to see, where to go, as well as adventures just outside of the bustling city.

Accommodation is in a shared room with other girls (4 people in each room); adult bunk beds that we built ourselves using recycled wood from a rooftop farm!

    What else ...

The apartment is furnished with everything you'll need for a comfortable stay in New York. The bedrooms are spacious - each person has their own designated chest of drawers and closet space. All rooms have great natural light, air-con, etc. - beds are twin sized and bed linens, blankets, pillows, etc. are provided.

There are 2 full bathrooms, a fully functional kitchen (with pots/pans/dishes/etc for cooking needs), and a spacious common space. The common space has a large couch for relaxing and hanging out with other roommates, a table for communal meals, desks for studying/working, musical instruments, and more.

Included: a bed in a shared dorm, all utilities (including WIFI), majority of bulk food items (oatmeal, eggs, milk, sugar, butter, coffee, rice, onions, potatoes, flour), we'll also cook several meals together during the week :)

Our neighborhood is awesome. Located right off of Bedford Ave and filled with cool restaurants, cafes, bars, with more things popping up every month. Best coffee in the area is certainly Kolache & Co. on Dekalb Ave; Swell Dive around the corner for great tacos and beer; Dynaco - a great bar just down the road for a cosy sit by the fire; and so much more.

Nearby neighborhoods also have their own gems within an easy walk, like Fort Greene Park, which is just a mile away; and Pratt Institute in Clinton Hill, 1/2 a mile. Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Brooklyn :) Not to mention, it's easy (8 minute train ride) to get to another favorite BK spots... Williamsburg.

Getting around: the subway is super convenient - G train at Bedford Nostrand Station is literally 30 seconds from the apartment. There's also a bike share program throughout the city, and a comprehensive bus system. You can get anywhere from here :)
