    Description

    Availability- yes. starting in April.

Please address questions below when messaging.
We especially enjoy hosting those from foreign country and preference is given to those who can stay at minimum 6 weeks.
    When messaging for a request to be hosted please include the following;
    1. Describe your practical skills. The more details the better.
    2.Travel dates.
    3. Reference letter or recommendation letter if your profile does not have a review.
    4. acknowledge that you have read this profile and are comfortable with what is offered and expected.
    5. Have you ever lived off grid with no WiFi and limited cell service?

This is a beautiful, rainy and rural area of Hawaii. The farm is 100% smoke free (yes all kinds, we do not host smokers). We live a lifestyle of early to bed early to rise, eating healthy with positive and productive interactions with the animals and plants around us.

We have cats, ducks, chickens, cows, sheep and often foster puppies and kittens for the animal shelter.

Everyone participates in cleaning the shared spaces and are expected to keep their own space very clean. You are responsible for treating with care the many items, tool etc used while living here.

Everyone is expected to have their own rain gear; rain jacket, mud boots, umbrella etc.

We are relatively secluded and live off-grid. This means our electricity is provided from solar power, our water is from the rain, and we must take all our own trash to collection facilities. As such, we try to produce as little waste as possible and use our resources responsibly.

Pantry with organic, gluten free nonperishable staples provided. For example; beans, lentils, coconut oil, spices and salt. You will need to feel comfortable cooking foods from scratch.
Organic, gluten free lunch or fresh smoothies on some work days.
Most of your food will come fresh from the land, if you love to harvest and cook you will have loads of food. If not, you will end up buying most of your food from the store.
Fruit and vegetables available for harvest, season dependent, listed below.
We grow, pineapples, oranges, avocados, macadamia nuts, turmeric, lemongrass, lychee, tangerine, bananas, breadfruit, lilikoi, abiu, chernam cherries, lemon, tangerine, grapefruit, jackfruit, pumpkin, taro, papaya, cinnamon, tapioca, leafy greens, mamaki, tomatoes, green beans, okra, eggplant, basil, tomatillos, green onion and so much more....

    Laundry services available in town.

internet services available in Pahoa town, there is no WiFi and limited phone reception on property.

The work is hard, the sun is strong and it rains frequently. I have been told this is the perfect place to reconnect with oneself without the distraction of WiFi, to gain muscle, to physical and mentally push oneself and deepen your practical skill set. If you are looking for easy place to crash, or a place to trade reiki, I suggest somewhere else where those desires can be appreciated.
This is our home, not a business.
Minimum wage Payment for hours worked is available.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Volunteers will have the opportunity to experience off-grid living in a tropical location as well as learn about the diverse Hawaiian culture here on the Big Island.
We work together and for those who show interest I teach about the native plants, off grid living, solar maintenance and positive reinforcement animal training. We do all the building ourselves ( our homes, chicken coups, outbuildings etc) so for those who show a respect and understanding of safety equipment I will share a little of what I have learned.
We embrace eating real, organic foods and like to share in the abundance of information on how to grow, harvest and prepare edibles from Hawai’i for those who show a genuine interest and willingness to put in the extra time it takes to grow, harvest, clean and prepare fresh foods.
We have started a project of building garden bed to grow and harvest veggies and flowers that grow well in Hawaii. We love taking care of the land and giving back to the island.

    Help

As we have evolved so has the focus here, there are many projects on past reviews that have been completed and “ put to bed”. The Big focus now is, the well being of the land, plants and animals. The more we give the more is given back, but we do it without expectation.
It is through the monotony of daily responsibilities that we are able to create a beneficial outcome.
You can come here with no experience, no relevant skills, you don’t even need to speak English. You will be expected to show good manners, to show kindness to the animals, to put away your phone and focus entirely on the work and give it your full effort and attention.

    22hours a week.
Normally we do 4 days a week
For those who show common sense and the ability to complete a task on their own, we are flexible with hours. Some choose to help a few hours everyday, others like to help a few very long days to take advantage maximum free days.

    Animal care
    Cleaning, tidying, organizing
    Gardening, planting, fruit tree maintenance
    Weeding, invasive species removal
    General farm maintenance and upkeep
    Handyman
    Building, sanding, painting.

I enjoy hosting those from countries outside of the USA and prefer those who can stay two months or more but can accommodate shorter stays for foreigners with limited travel visas.
