Description
We are a family with a project that combines forest conservation with agroecology. Our farm, which has 25 hectars mostly of forest, is located in Mindo, Ecuador one of the most biodiverse areas of the world. In our place there are a lot of birds such as Tucans and hummingbirds, there is also several species of amphibians and mammals. Two rivers surround our place and you can swim in these rivers. We produce with the principle of biodynamic agriculture which sees the Earth as a living being. We have several self-subsistence crops such as palm heart, papaya, pineapple, banana, other fruit trees and cocoa. We also have a orchard where we produce most of our vegetables.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Working as a volunteer is an incredible opportunity to relate to other cultures, to learn Spanish and to get to know other places. It also allows reserves to be self-sustaining, and to be able to protect and take care for these natural areas.
It is a reciprocal process that benefits both the participant and the place where you work, in solidarity where you are needed, giving a different meaning in each one's life by giving valuable time and effortProjects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

The volunteers live in a small wooden house, sometimes sharing bedroom with other volunteers. There is just one house, and the members of the family live here. There is no electric light and therefore we do not have Wi-Fi; however, we have a solar panel that allows cell phones to be charged. We have water that comes from its own watersheds.
We generally cook and eat together and serve vegetarian food. What else ...
Volunteers can also get involved in other activities, such as meditation, vegetarian cooking, hiking, bird watching, waterfall baths, bonfires, and a space to share their experiences. Also, near the area there are very beautiful places, which are worth visiting. We are located 2 km from Mindo town so you can go there after work.

Working on the farm with Ximena was an incredible experience. Amazing communication (you are initially contacted by Ximena's daughter). The work on the farm is tough but extremely rewarding. I was able to clear a bed where I planted corn, beans, and other fruit and veggies! I also did a mix of weeding, planting, and… read more
We were warmly welcomed by Ximenia, Micaela's mother, who is the actual owner and worker of the farm.
The reserve is amazing, in the middle of the forest with a bunch of colored birds !
The work is diversified, interesting and quite easy.
The food, mostly vegetarian, was really good and different every day.
Ximenia is a… read more
