    Description

We are an intercultural organisation in Drogheda (North East of Ireland), dedicated to promoting interaction, understanding and dialogue between new communities from different ethnic, cultural and faith backgrounds and the host community.

We are looking for volunteers to help out in our drop-in centre for three months or more. The centre provides advice and support on rights and entitlements in different languages to support new communities with language difficulty to enable them cope with issues that affect their lives.

The centre provides other services such as: language classes, legal aid, homework and afterschool activities to aid children whose parents have little or no English.

Also, we offer a variety of intercultural summer programmes each year to engage children for two or more weeks during the summer. During this period, children learn about the history and culture of diverse cultures. Activities provided are arts and crafts, dance, sport, music, health and fitness... Classes are divided into groups of 4-6, 7-12 and 13-17 years. Our camp ensures that the summer holiday for participants turns into a great and unforgettable experience.

We work with Individuals, schools, community groups, Statutory agencies and Service Providers; we welcome volunteers who would be happy to assist in our various projects.

Currently, volunteers will be required to help out in our summer camp programmes which runs July to August. Volunteers with European languages such as, Spanish/French/Italian/German.. will be of great help.

For the rest of the year, we need volunteers with Social media skills, language and administrative skills to support our information centre. They may also be required to help out in Homework /Afterschool club to assist children whose parents have no English or who maybe struggling with their studies. For example Maths, Sciences, Languages...

A good knowledge in computer, social media and website management (Wordpress) will be highly appreciated. One or two of the host families that will accommodate volunteers may require few hours support in cooking/shopping, and light house work.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

As we provide linguistic and cultural solutions, participants who may like to improve their communication skills will participate in our conversational English language classes, they will also have the opportunity to participate in our intercultural monthly 'Culture Share', learn about Irish culture, meet and chat with the diverse cultures represented in the organisation and the community.

The ideas and experiences that volunteers will benefit from our organisation, will no doubt help to increase their understanding on cultural diversity as well as help to foster openness to differences.
