    Description

Our names are Alexandria and Eugenio. We are the parents of Vittoria, born on 3 January 2022, and we are looking for someone to come stay with us from October 2022 till mid December 2022 for child care and as a cultural exchange.

Alexandria is from the United States and Eugenio is from the Aosta Valley region in Italy. We have been living in a small town to the north of Rome since 2017. We live in a three bedroom apartment with two bathrooms. In the house we speak Italian as a family, but Alexandria speaks English with Vittoria. Eugenio speaks English as well and we don't mind speaking English with our volunteers if they do not know Italian.

Eugenio is a farmer who has olive trees and fruit trees. During the fall months when our guest would be staying with us he will be very busy with the olive harvest. Alexandria is an English language teacher at a private school in a nearby town.

For Vittoria, we are looking for someone with lots of experience with children and babies, as well as someone who enjoys spending time with them. We would like someone who is truly interested in staying with us for the whole duration from October 2022 till mid December 2022 (just before the Christmas holidays).

We have been volunteers ourselves with another association called WWOOF Italy. We know how it is being a volunteer and we try to create an atmosphere at home that we would have liked to find as volunteers traveling around Italy. Somewhere where you feel comfortable to be yourself and where you can put your own interests and passion into the work you do.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

For us, being experienced travellers ourselves, it is important that we get to spend time together during meal times. These are the moments when we can get to know you the best. Our view is as long as people are open and willing to interact with those around them, learning and cultural exchange is inevitable.

In terms of skills and experiences that we can specifically offer you while you're with us I would say cooking Italian food. We love cooking and spending meal times together whenever it is possible. Whoever stays with us could also benefit from the multicultural landscape of our household. We are an American and Italian living together so cultural differences pop up weekly if not daily, even though we have been together for nearly ten years. We love asking questions and learning about your culture as well, everything you are willing to share.

    Help

We are looking for help with child care for our daughter, Vittoria, born January 3, 2022. We are looking for someone who has lots of experience working with children especially young children, as when our guest will stay with us Vittoria will be around 9 months old.

    PERIOD OF TIME:
    October 2022-mid December 2022

    DAYS of the WEEK:
It is absolutely necessary that our guest is available to provide child care Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 8 hours from 12-8pm. We would also need the occasional extra hour during the week, for example Thursday morning. But these can be discussed together with our guest based on their needs and ours week by week.

During the time you spend with Vittoria we would need you to tend to all of her needs, such as providing meals when she is hungry, changing diapers, giving a bath. As well we would like you to spend the time playing with her and engaging her in fun activities like reading together, playing with toys etc.

    FREE TIME
The rest of the time is yours to do with as you wish. There are many places to visit in the surrounding areas. If you are interested in learning Italian there is a school in a nearby town that offers lessons. Travelling is easy with public transportation but as in all of Italy, it is infinitely easier to get around if you have a car. If you do remote work you are free to do so at home, just outside of the hours detailed above.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

    In terms of accommodation those who would like to stay with us can expect the following;

    INTERNET
Internet access is available and of good quality. It is for everyone to use. We have 100GB a month which we use for work and watching the occasional film. We ask that guests please do not binge watch TV series in the evening. It has happened with other volunteers that in this way they use up all the available internet and this isn’t fair for anyone.

    ROOM
You will have your own room and bathroom. We ask guests to please keep their room and bathroom as tidy as possible and clean. We have a washing machine available for use and which is available for you to use when you need it.

    FOOD
We eat nearly all of our meals at home, besides the occasional pizza. We have a very varied diet, but as a warning we do not often eat meat or fish. Those who are vegetarian are readily welcome. We ask that travellers help out with the occasional meal preparation. We love all types of food, so if you have a special dish, or food from your home country that you would like to share with us, we would be more than happy to try!

We very rarely have alcohol in the house as we are not big drinkers but if you would like a wine or beer with your meal we have no objections.

Alexandria follows a mostly gluten free diet, but this is not a rule for the house as Eugenio does not.

    QUESTIONS
Please voice questions and concerns regarding the accommodation if you might have any. It is hard to include all the details that one might think of.

    What else ...

The area is very rich in history and very beautiful. A day trip to Rome or the beach (20km away) is easily accessible with public transportation. There is also Lake Bolsena, a large former volcanic crater, which is a great place to spend time in the summer or winter when the weather is nice which is often. In many cases it is easy to get around by public transportation, but if you come with a car it will be infinitely easier to get around.
