I am a physics lecturer in the education faculty of Riau University located in Pekanbaru, Indonesia. I want to prepare my students for the future by helping them to become confident with their communication skills in English. To this aim, l sometime give my physics lessons in English. Oral communication in English is not problematic for me, but I am not comfortable with writing. This is why I asked one of my ex-volunteers to help me with writing my profile and handling written communication.
My students are more enthusiastic about practicing English when they can exchange with foreigners. Therefore, I am looking for mature and open-minded individuals who can interact with them. The interactions can take the form of presentations about your country, seminars about your domain or expertise (physics and engineering are highly valued), informal discussions, English grammar lessons... The minimum commitment period is two weeks and about 12h/week are expected to be spent with the students. In exchange, I will provide you with accommodation in a simple Indonesian house.
I am also setting up a non profit organization to give the opportunity to local people to interact with foreigners and improve their English. To help me with, I need people that can commit for a minimum of three weeks and accept to teach English for about 4h/day, 5 days/week. When the level of the students is sufficient, the lessons take the form of conversations and language practice. This option requires strong dedication. As a reward, I will help with funding your flight to Pekanbaru in the limit of 75 US $ and provide you with 3 meals per day.

You will be surprised by the Sumatran dishes. If you are interested, I will bring you to visit local attractions or more remote places during the days off (Muara Takus, Bono river ...)

Syahril is one of the most kind person you are going to find in Indonesia. I stayed with him for a week and he was always so helpful and funny!!
