    Description

Hi! We are a family of 5, Carlo and I, Linda, are a separate couple who gets along well and still shares a home with our three kids who are 10 and 6 years old (yes, the last two are twins!) plus Kilda the dog. We live in a tiny village along the river Tagliamento, not far from Pordenone, in NE Italy. Carlo works at a fiber manufacturing company and while I work at a local Montessori school, although we both have other projects we're working on. Carlo teaches mushroom growing techniques and produces gourmet and medicinal mushrooms and I look after the organizational and promotional aspects of this "Micomondo" project. I have only just dipped my toes into a holistic project, too, so hopefully that will also take off. I love arts and crafts and sowing seeds/planting flowers and trees. We lived abroad for a few years (Australia, Uk, Tenerife) and gathered many different experiences. At the time there is no travelling in sight for us, but we do miss the cultural exchange! So for this reason, as well as for some help with our personal projects or the kids/house, we are looking for some lovely folks to come and stay with us! *** Unfortunately at the moment WE CAN ONLY OFFER TENT ACCOMODATION, so workawayers who have THEIR OWN VAN or CAMPERVAN are welcome. This is because we moved recently, so no rooms yet! Oh and we are very happy to host families :-)
Our area has a lot to offer whether you are into culture, nature or sports. There is a bus stop a short walk from our home and the nearest train station is a 15min drive away. Also, 10 mins from our place you can visit Spilimbergo, where the world famous school of Mosaic is located and which offers short courses during the summer. Friuli is a rather unknown tourist area compared to most other Italian regions, but it really has a lot to offer, especially if you enjoy nature. We have bikes you can use and lots of tips about places worth exploring. We used to rock climb, we are a tad busy for that these days, but we can squeeze in a climbing trip or two if needed 😉
We are seldom omnivores, as we tend to eat mainly vegetarian, but can cater to all needs. I, Linda, am into Montessori and I try to implement these principles as much/best as I can. I work at a kindergarten (Casa dei Bambini) as an English teacher, too.
I speak English and some German and a little Spanish. Carlo, speaks English and Spanish. Diego, our eldest loves languages and he'd be really happy to learn a few words in your own and teach you a few in Italian in return! We all love music, Carlo plays bass and guitar, Diego is learning ukulele and piano, while the twins and I have the very important role of singers, hand clappers and supporters :-D
Right, I think I'll leave something for when we'll meet but if you do have any questions, just ask! 😊
    A presto!

  • Help

    Help

The type of help is so varied that I'm sure whatever skill you have can probably meet our needs!
It could be help with tending the garden (watering, planting, weeding of vegetables) or mushroom cultivation (if you have science lab experience, it'd be great!), or general help around the house like cooking and painting or with the kids (sports, music, art and languages are all very welcome skills). We could use help with our websites or with photography/video making/graphic work. Oh and perhaps with the customization of my VW van if you have woodworking skills. There might be the chance of travelling with us for short weekends around Italy when we go teach our courses, to help with kids and logistics. Let's chat and see what we can do together 😊

I love all languages really, but I could especially do with a refresh of French and German. I'd be happy to help you with your Italian if you wish

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

As stated in the description, we moved recently so we have no finished bedrooms yet. We CAN ONLY ACCOMODATE WORKAWAYERS IN A TENT IN OUR GARDEN, or who come WITH THEIR OWN VAN/MOTORHOME for now!
Meals are Italian style, but I would say 70% vegetarian. you can definitely have and learn how to make some staple Italian dishes and we'll try to cater to your needs as much as possible.
We have a rather large garden where you can relax, as it's a very quiet area. We have a very basic tree house where you can hide away from all world's worries! And wi-fi reaches well as far as the garden area, too ;-)

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There are coaches that can take you to the closest main cities like Udine and Pordenone, as well as some smaller but cute villages. The train station with direct trains to Venice and Trieste is also 10mins from home. We can give you a lift to places when we can and there's bikes available. There is a public swimming pool in the town of Spilimbergo. I help organize traditional meditation classes that you can join or take long walks or bike rides along the river to the nearby villages. In summer if it has rained enough, you can swim in the river, too. There are lots of "sagre" that is, little folk festivals in almost every town or village during the warmer months. If you go to Pordenone, there are museums, shops, art galleries, theatre, ecc... and the bus takes you directly there in 20/25 mins.
