    Description

Hello Workawayers! Looking for helpful friends for the next building stage of our small house building project from around April 2024! We're going to be doing the walls (with clay) and there will also be some woodwork and some generalised construction help needed!

This is an ecological culture centre & open-air experimentation lab for creativity, tolerance, self-organization, and many other things in the forests outside of Berlin. There are always lots of projects happening around, people building things, tree-planting, sawing cut trees into construction timber, gardening, maintaining, processing food, fantasizing... there may be some specific things we imagine you could be helping out with at a given moment, but at the same time we would like to encourage you to figure out what you would like to learn and how you would like to contribute, and then go for it! If you're honestly interested in learning about (sometimes challenging) community living and DIY, you won't be bored here. On the other hand we won't force anybody to do anything they don't want to do, either.

this is an anarchist village in full operation -- a great opportunity to get inspiration about how to organize (and also about how not to organize...) society differently in the future. The fundamental purpose of the project is to support native ecosystems as they gradually form again in what used to be a life-negating pine monoculture, while also considering the human niche by adding fruit and nut trees. In this way, the project is of course inspired by permaculture. At the same time, it's an open space where we experiment with different forms of construction, community life and decision-making. People here have an incredible array of DIY skills; personally I can offer some pointers about carpentry, edible wild plants, dumpster-diving, ecosystems, and a bunch of other random stuff.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Accommodation is organized flexibly -- it helps if you bring a tent, but other options may be available. As far as food goes, we usually sustain ourselves by dumpster-diving and a few organic staples that we buy.

This seems like as good a place as any to warn you that the place you're reading about can be intimidating -- it can be chaotic, people can be grumpy, things can be uncomfortable. We only use compost toilets and the only kind of heating and cooking system we have is wood-burning stoves (that also goes for hot water for the shower). On the other hand side, it can also be super nice, especially in summer -- there is a huge beautiful natural area of forest and heath and lakes around, and of course we also have beautiful moments of community and celebration of life :-)

  • What else ...

    What else ...

I've done a bunch of volunteering myself, and while most likely I won't be the perfect host (who will, eh?), I have at least basic understanding of the most common problems workawayers encounter with their hosts. Talk to me. We'll work it out.

No problems with accommodating pets or families (but make sure you read the whole profile). Conversely we don't at all appreciate people with an acute smartphone addiction, if you feel that applies for you, please don't get in touch. (Or commit to withdraw.) Also, please don't fly to come here, especially if you're coming from somewhere you could also travel from overland. We only have one planet in case you haven't noticed yet, and I'm sure there are also plenty of meaningful things to do near where you are if you can't take the time to travel in a sustainable way.

Also be aware that we drink the ground water, so avoid using any non-biodegradable detergents or toothpaste :-)
