    Description

    - This is a community project teaching low income Colombians and Venezuelans to cook healthy food recipes from around the world, and to create unique businesses selling the food at local prices. It is a personalized training program that helps participants learn to manage their business and life priorities, with a space to sell their products learning in practice, not just theory, and they use our equipment while they earn and save for their own. We also offer bi-weekly community cooking classes for those you want to cook healthy for their families and friends, not necessarily to start a business. We are creating organic rooftop and vertical gardens, training and transforming organic produce into delicious products, then back into compost to start the cycle again.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I (Brian) have travelled to more than 70 countries as an international volunteer before creating this project in Medellín, and I'll be more than happy to give others the opportunity to add experience to their CV working with an international NGO, while providing the most hospitable, fun environment possible. And you'll be eating delicious food for lunch on a daily basis while contributing to the sustainability of our project, working in Spanish and English or even some French if you prefer!

Most of our rooftop garden structures have been created, although we are always looking for new designs for the vertical gardens; gardeners with experience in rooftop garden maintenance; handy people with technical skills to help with the tonnes of small renovation/construction projects around the training space; chefs and bakers who want to do an ethnic culinary exchange; there are a lot of ways to help make the training centre great with technical expertise!
We receive a large number of requests, so if you send a generic message that does not show you have read our profile completely, expect us to do the same! ;)

    Accommodation

The accommodation will be in a private bedroom for guests on the second floor with private bathroom. It's a unique building that has recuperated 80+ year old doors and windows from homes that have been demolished during the city's renovations, now considered part of the city's heritage. We don't always eat breakfast here, but a delicious lunch is guaranteed during work days!

We are walking distance to all types of cultural activities in the heart of the city centre, and we can help you enjoy the variety of events that the city has to offer. The new modern tram runs in front of the centre, with the station 2 blocks away; easy access to anywhere! We look for a balanced work/life relationship, and have spent a lot of energy building this project from below the ground up. We look for passionate people to help us continue to grow! We are not a hotel or hostel, and as I live in the building and also need some time to myself for various tasks and to wind down from time to time, we look for guests to enjoy the city outside of the project with some of their time, and to not think of their room as a private hotel where they never leave the house; we are required to give access to the house for security reasons (there are no spare keys), we don't leave anyone alone inside, and we need to get out sometimes too! :)
Another important point is that there is no Internet access in the house: a park 3 blocks away has free Internet access for up to 2.5 hours per day when you need to connect (I even download movies from there!). If you are in the country for an extended time, I can also help get a local phone SIM, and it is extremely affordable to purchase a data package that allows you to connect to the internet from a phone/tablet.
