    Description

Come Visit the Great Canadian Rockies and see them as they truly are - wild and beautiful!
We offer private log cabin accommodation and a wide variety of year-round, nature-oriented activities such as hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, fishing, whitewater rafting, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The cabins are nestled amongst the front ranges of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, adjacent to Jasper National Park and vast, undeveloped Willmore Wilderness. We cater to guests looking for a quiet, scenic and non-touristy spot from which to enjoy our mountain wilderness.

    A typical day -

All meals are served family-style out of our central cookhouse.

Morning: ~0800 - come down, help with prep for our guests.

Daytime: ~10:30 - Go on nature/interpretive hikes w/ guests. (I can teach you the local flora/fauna, wildlife behavior/habitat, a bit about geology and, of course, show you the trails. I typically accompany you and guests on the hikes until you are comfortable.)

Alternatively, Secondary duties can include cleaning cabins; splitting/stacking firewood; providing guest transportation (most of the time, my volunteers have the opportunity to accompany guests if they're out on a day trip with my specialty outfitters - horseback riding and whitewater rafting); and helping with a weekly "supply run" (a dash into the nearest town to do laundry, pick up fuel, groceries and other supplies).

Afternoon: Relatively flexible. Read, explore, have a nap on the moss-covered forest floor...

Evening: ~1800 - help with card games and board games often strike up in the cookhouse following dessert.

    Accommodation

Volunteer accommodation: Non-smoking, 2-bedroom, shared bath, living room, spacious loft. It is still rustic (as in, no running water - a wash basin is provided), but it is heated, furnished and has a composting toilet. We are able to use the showers in the cabins when we have a guest change-out.

    What else ...

Special considerations: The cabins are relatively remote, with the nearest point of civilization being Hinton, Alberta - 70 km to our southeast. It is important, therefore, for my volunteer(s) to be comfortable with the sense of isolation. The days out here are full of things to do, however I do try to give my volunteer(s) time off/free time whenever possible.

All volunteer/guest accessible buildings are non-smoking. Smoking is permitted outside.
