Description
Located in one of the neighbourhoods of Kathmandu, we founded a English Boarding school in 1995 with only 15 students. Currently, we provide education to almost 150 students between 4 and 14 years old.

No matter where the kids are from, or which status their parents have, everyone should have a chance for receiving good education. The aim is keeping the monthly school fee as low as possible and providing scholarships on the cases that is needed (currently a third of the students are free of charge). The school is also a home for 15 children whose parents are not able to take care of them.

But after everything that has already been achieved, we do not stop dreaming. We want every kid in Nepal to have a chance at a better life. This starts with a good education.

Help
We need volunteers all year round to support teaching different subjects (English, maths, science, informatics), arts (dance, games), sports (football, martial arts, volleyball, cricket) improving the teaching skills of the staff, creating new material, organizing activities, updating our blog, building new facilities, etc.

Accommodation
We offer accommodation and food in our house in exchange for your help. We will provide you a room and a shared bathroom. We also host 15 children whose parents are not able to take care of them.
We cook traditional nepali dishes for you everyday during your stay.
Our home is located next to the school.

We ask volunteers to pay a small sum of 5 US dollars a day to stay here. This cost includes three meals (mostly Dal Bhat and mainly vegetarian) boiled/filtered water, cold shower and WiFi. Please note that the served food is basic, however you are able to stock up on extra items at the local stores and small local eateries a short walk from the house.
What else ...
We are located in the neighbourhood of Balaju Heights, which is in the western part of Kathmandu near Swayambhunath (the monkey temple), one of the most famous temples in Kathmandu. The airport is in eastern Kathmandu and we recommend taking a taxi from the airport to our house. We can send a driver to pick you up at the airport with a private vehicle for 10 US Dollars. Other volunteers have really enjoyed this option as the Kathmandu airport and streets can be busy and confusing.

I only stayed a few days with Rabin and his family at the school, but overall I had a great experience. The only downside for me was that my bed was infested with bedbugs, which made me leave a lot earlier than planned. This is absolutely not Rabin's fault and he totally understood when I told him I didn't want to stay because of that.

Sitting on Rabin's motorcycle, passing through the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu, being lived here for more than a… read more month, now I’m leaving the city, which is the first stop of my gap year travel.
I can still think back in the days I just went abroad, with all the novelty and excitement, and a little uneasiness.
My mom asked me that as soon as I arrived Nepal, leave messages to her so that she can set her heart as rest. However, I didn't have a local SIM card when I just arrived. Once I went to the school to connect to Wi-Fi and then I got contact with my mom. At that time, I saw myself in my mom’s eyes. I was also worried about the trip without a companion.
After living in Kathumandu for a month, I was fully able to understand Rabin's look at the beginning. Why do you feel worried about coming to this poor place but people who live and work in peace, the place traffic is chaotic but no danger? I still remember my answer at the time. I said my mom didn’t know enough about most places abroad, She heard that here was a war in the news in this country, and there was a vicious incident in that country. The media make her feel that foreign countries were dangerous and terrible. And Rabin said: "That’s why people travel!"
I didn't eat any meat at the beginning few days. When I learned that we would eat chicken every Friday night, I was so so happy! Helping Rabin to make spices, marinate chicken, and cook chicken in the yard – this is really the happiest moment of my taste buds every week.
It was examination week before the holiday. Invigilation is really easy, only two or three hours of invigilation per day. After the exam, I followed Rabin and took the test paper. After the collection, all the papers were loaded into Rabin's small schoolbag, and then I took the small bag back and sat on Rabin's motorcycle to get home.
Naina, the local English teacher at the school, said I was like Rabin's son. Indeed，Rabin not only took me back from the airport, but even when I went to Pokhara, it was also he that drive me to take the bus. During the holiday, Rabin asked me if I wanted to go to Monkey Temple，he could drive me there. He said that I came to Kathmandu, he don't want me to miss the most important tourist attractions. I’m so moved, felt the warmth of family even if in a foreign country.
There are a lot of reasons why I don’t go to Monkey Temple: I don’t want to be a tourist, don’t want to spend money on tickets, or just not interested in temples. I would just like to be a resident in this town called Balaju, wearing pants and slippers, and buying bananas at the roadside shop - just like these monkeys eating bananas in the temple.
After more than a month of observation, I can see that people in this place lived so happy. The people do not own much, but they are content. I know that the hard-working Chinese people who talk about money every day is precisely the reason why this country's economy is thriving, however, I can't help to think about what are these people who are not pursuing more wealth pursuing?
I looked at Rabin's white vest that had broken a few holes, and his old mobile phone that had been used over ten years. I remembered that when the clean water equipment was just completed, Rabin was laughing as a innocent child.
I don't want to sing the songs of selfless dedication at all - because I am actually a very selfish person. I will buy the electronic products I like, and use my hard-earned money to eat and travel. There is no great ideal and ambition in my heart. The only ultimate wish of mine is actually to travel around the world after making big money.
But even then, at this moment, I am sincerely glad that we have people like Rabin, and thank people like Rabin for they are really trying to make the world better and better.
Rabin and his beloved will finally make their dreams come true.
