We are a small local community primary school in Jinja that was established in 2009 with a goal of giving support to the orphaned and needy children some of whom are are battling HIV/AIDS and Sickle cell anaemia in the poor communities surrounding the beautiful town of Jinja that is situated at the heart of the Pearl of Africa through providing a good education, food and nutrition with a little bit of health care.
From a small wooden school of 57 children in 2009, we have been blessed over the years of our operation with a number of successes that we can not only count on ourselves but greatly on the support of our partner organisations, donors, volunteers, friends and well-wishers of our projects. Today we are having a population of over 300 children acquiring their basic education from our school and most importantly having it in a good and safe learning environment as opposed to the semi-permanent classrooms that we started with.
We are looking forward to developing a well built child with a strong character and sound academic and social competences regardless of the background they are from. With such a goal we have set, we welcome all workawayers from a all over the world that might be interested in our movement to join us in creating a changed society among our children built on a firm foundation of love
Definitely like any other institution around the world, we are abound to having challenges especially when with the sporadic in come of donations, grants, gifts e.t.c but we feel that it is also important for us being sustainable in the near future and any ideas brought on table shall be highly appreciated as we need to see an impact registered in a long run and this only comes with sustainability of the project.
A lot of activities have been induced within school to occupy and pre-occupy the children during on and off school times, this has been aimed at reducing the idleness of children that has resulted into many being drug addicts, incurring early child pregnancies, involved in child labor among other evils that have become popular in recent times.
Lastly, our workawayers we have hosted in the past have described us as being big and kind hearted, and we overwhelmed by their love and appreciation of this cultural exchange and in the same mood we humbly welcome you who is reading this article now to spend a vacation/holiday with these humble souls, there is a lot you can offer to them as well learn from them, and the african culture and the whole environment around them, you might be talented in teaching, in counselling those feeling low, that are orphaned, needy or those that have been sexually abused that is helpful to our children or you might be good at evangelism, art, music , dance and drama among other activities, your voluntary service shall be greatly appreciated and a blessing to our children and school!
There is a lot to share and learn with the pupils like African traditional music, dance and drama that the pupils present to the volunteers, local games using local materials, they also carry out the art and craft, and a few modern games like table tennis and piano lessons, the debates, quiz's, athletics among many more activities!
Oh! one more thing before i forget, our volunteers always have a taste of a diverse number of the African foods at no cost!
The travellers have lots to offer to our big family, both professional and non-professional support like teaching, charity work, art projects, games and sports, music, dance and drama, holding guidance and counselling lectures among other activities but most importantly bringing about a cultural exchange and something new to our community is much more welcome as we are also fond of sharing our culture with our visitors so that we all have a mutual benefit and appreciation of each other and how wonderfully we are.
Our home for volunteers is a 4 room house that is not self contained but comfortable to live. It's having electricity and tapped water connected to it. Its comfortable and safe to live in!
You are humbly welcome!!!
