  • Description

    Description

We are looking for energetic, hardworking volunteers who can offer their skills as craftspeople, farmers, gardeners, sign painters, video editors, office admins, cooks, musicians, and stage managers to trade work and a small fee for a private tent and board at our farm-turned-monastery, the headquarters of our intentional art community.

The Art Monastery Project seeks to create world-class art by applying monastic principles to art-making instead of religion. We are transforming a farm in southern Vermont into a monastery -- an ART monastery -- an international non-profit arts production center steeped in monastic practices.

From May through September, we invite people to join us for 2 weeks or more. Please email us for more specific information and indicate your desired dates. Specifically in May 2017 we're looking for worktraders with experience building to help us install tent platforms, to transform an attic into a bedroom, and to further finish the transformation of our barn into a dance studio.

    Help

While the summer is high arts-production season, spring and fall are filled with more community-oriented tasks, as well as a few artistic events. Everyone works hard, and we can always use help with the un-glamorous aspects of arts production. We need help organizing the living quarters & office, building lovely and sturdy shelving and storage, baking bread, making yogurt, driving shuttles to the train station, cooking, cleaning, helping organize our hard drives and physical archives, doing online marketing, heading up a series of research projects, and supporting whatever art projects are currently in the works. If you have artistic or musical skill, you may be able to find a collaborator or develop your own work in your off hours.

Tents. Possibility of indoor accommodations depending on capacity. These tents are wonderful to sleep in. Set on platforms, near to house. Sleep under the Vermont stars alongside the beautiful Connecticut River. These are sometimes the favorite places in the community to sleep! Indoor shower and bathroom available to tent campers!

Laughter and joy under the pear tree after morning meditation! There is an invitation to sit together for 30 min as a community daily at 9 am after shared breakfast. We often love to sit outside and look out over the river as we meditate.
