Description
Our project is a 25 acre nature reserve and outdoor education campus located in the heart of Louisiana’s Cajun country, that aims to inspire people to steward the nature in their own backyards and learn how, collectively, we can protect these natural gifts for future generations.
Within the nature reserve, restorations are ongoing by sculpting the lands with specialized native species, reestablishing ‘Cajun’ prairie, planting over a thousand regionally native trees, creating wetland habitats for declining amphibians and rare fishes, creating pollinator habitats from native hibiscus, swamp milkweed, and many more regional plants to aid declining butterflies, native bees and others, and traditionally growing food without pesticides using permaculture, Creole and other indigenous methods.
So far, hundreds of local youth and other community members have helped with the restoration of the land and participated in our programs.
We live on the property along with 20 chicken, 5 ducks, 9 sheep, 6 bunnies, 1 dog, 1 turtles and many fish. For our day job, we work from home: my husband is an artist (eco-art/bio-art) and biologist and I am his studio manager. We are a pretty fun family (if I can say so myself) and love welcoming people.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We are a multicultural family (French/Tunisian/Swiss/American) leaving in a unique part of the world. You'll get to discover the festive culture of Cajun country, with its food, music and many many festivals. We are located 30 minutes from Lafayette, 45 minutes from Baton Rouge and about 2 hours from New Orleans. You'll also get to be part of Arnaudville community, a burgeoning town with a lot of creative energy. Volunteering with us, you'll learn a lot about Louisiana's nature and environment. Oh and also you'll eat good food.
