We are currently building an educational institution. We are building it on a one hectare plot of land, nestled in the mountanous valley, in the middle of lush Javanese greenery besides a river of Banyubiru (which translates to "blue waters"), in Central Java, Indonesia.
Here we aim to teach the right method of permaculture, that derived inspiration from Masanobu Fukuoka, author of "The One Straw Revolution" and created by Bill, the "father of permaculture" who coined the term "permaculture" in the 70's. We know that deforestation is the major problem of tropics and the world (because the loss of biodiversity and climate change affects the world) and working towards putting a stop to defrestation is our organization's priority.
The solution to this problem, we believe, is knowledge on how to create efficient systems that perpetuate forest systems instead of degrading it. This is why our organization focuses on teaching the theory of creating forest systems and food forests in the tropics for the benefit of both man and nature. Specifically the tropics, because in the limited time we have to stop deforestation, the tropics is the part of the world with the fastest rate of growth, because of the availability of water and sunlight, and most biodiverse, allowing for systemic resiliency due to the different types of flora and fauna species available.
We value knowledge very highly here, as the right knowledge leads to the right actions and misinformation perpetuates the opposite, which ultimately leads to inefficient and resource consuming systems. We are looking for people seriously interested in learning about tropical permaculture. We want to create a team that works on perpetuating efficient forest systems and help create large scale changes globally.
Opportunities to learn are aplenty, as we are a melting pot of multi-talented intellectuals who play a significant role in the functions of an organization set out to take permaculture to a whole new level. These people will be your invaluable learning resources. For those of you interested, there is also an opportunity to do a Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC), with certified teachers from our organization who were taught by Bill Mollison and Geoff Lawton themselves. We will teach you for 50 days through a variety of mediums and give it to you for free. More details on this will be explained on the "cultural exchange" section. Make sure that you read our ENTIRE profile or else we won't reply to your inquiry.
We also adopts a no money system i.e. no money gets in and out of JL #1. Your wallet does not come out of your pocket, you pay nothing whilst you stay with us. We believed that people unobstructed by financial constraints learn better, their mind unclouded, and we aim to help facilitate this. The maximum stay in our lab is 3 weeks and in the past we have given monthly visa extensions and yearly working visas to volunteers who contribute positively to the dynamics of our organization. Expenses for food, a place to stay, and visa extensions for different lengths of time will be taken care of by us.

As explained above - the best cultural exchange we offer is the 50-Day, Free Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) Course. Our instructors have been taught by Bill, and Geoff, his number one student and apprentice. The usual commercial PDC takes an intensive 2 weeks to teach, but we believe that a longer time-frame would help you soak in the knowledge better.
Having a PDC means that you are an official certified permaculture designer - this allows you to officially make money using the word permaculture. This includes, but is not limited to, becoming a design consultant, teacher, and serious employment opportunities in tropical permaculture.
This is true cultural exchange that we offer you - the chance to learn and utilize the power of nature in the tropics and use it for the betterment of earth. Real knowledge from nature and real people.
Terms and conditions apply to enroll in this course, and inquiries are welcomed. However, one thing that we promise is that this offer will always remain free to volunteers.
The ecologist, microbiologist and environmental conservationist Dr. Willie Smits is also a good friend of our organization and is a contactable resource should any important questions regarding tropical permaculture or ecology in general arise.
We are famous for having the best food in Java (yes, the best, most delicious, healthiest selection of tropical fruits and dishes made from tropical ingredients; fresh vegetables with a plethora of spices are a specialty here), ask anyone who has ever volunteered here - they can vouch for this fact. Here you will also get the best sleep in recent memory in an old Javanese teak house while listening to the sound of the river, whilst breathing fresh cool mountain air.
We prohibit the use of alarms in JL #1 (unless it's to catch a flight or something important of the kind); you are free to sleep for as long as you like on our site as we believe that the key to have a properly functioning mind, and foundations to a good life in general is adequate sleep, along with healthy and delicious food.
We value the Art of Living very highly and aim to live as well as possible, and hope to share this pleasant lifestyle who offer their help to us. Please reply with "Raw Will" on the subject line when contacting us, we'll only reply to your message if you have that.
Most importantly, however, is that for the first time in your life, have an opportunity to be certified to work towards solutions to fix the problems of the world, the most heinous and destructive being tropical deforestation.
Initially we ask nothing more from you other than to do a bit of farm chores; cleaning, help cook, laundry and taking care of the animals we have here.
The best help we can accept, however, is for volunteers to become students and learn solutions to solve the problems of the tropics and the world through permaculture. Hence the offer of the 50-Day PDC that will be explained in further detail below. In this late stage of global environmental degradation, thinkers are unfortunately a rare commodity. We need as many people as we can educated in the right method of permaculture to help us spread our method and execute our plan to stop deforestation in the tropics. This is the best form of help that we can receive; thinkers working as a solid team, contemplating technical solutions to the problem of deforestation in the tropics which affects the whole world.
