We're 3 friends who met backpacking. We traveled extensively, staying in countless hostels and couch surfing. We opened our small hostel in July 2016. We're still improving and upgrading, so this is an opportunity to co-create with us a project that is still unfolding and growing. Among the funny quirks at our hostel, we have active bird feeders, so sometimes you see beautiful birds from our kitchen window (sparrows, finches, red cardinals, woodpeckers, blue jays). The hostel is a work-in-progress. We are not a finished / polished product, but we're still improving every day. We're a hostel that takes more of a slant toward spirituality, yoga, mediation and personal development. We're small and more like a family, so this is NOT a party hostel.
We host travelers, foreign students, local students, backpackers and gap year travelers. We are looking for work-awayers on an ongoing basis. Also, we have a cat, so please take note in case you're allergic
ABOUT PROVIDENCE: Voted TOP 3 in "America's Favorite Cities" poll in "Travel and Leisure" magazine. Providence is a vibrant city, with a great food culture, many museums, and home to several top universities. Our hostel is just 15 minutes walk to downtown and the train and bus station ( Boston [1 hr away] or New York City [3 hrs]), and walking distance to Providence's most famous universities: Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design, and Johnson and Wales Culinary Institute.

This gig can be as simple as you wish (checking guests in and cleaning)... or as creative and skill-enhancing as your spirit desires. If you're entrepreneurial, we're open to letting you market your own special skill to guests, and making some extra money to aid in travel. Past examples include a woman who taught yoga to guests and a guy who cooked dinner for guests for extra cash. Basically, just like in life, it's upto you what you get out of this experience. If you're looking to hone more advanced skills (like marketing... or your entrepreneurial side... or your artistic/design talents...) this can really be the right gig for you. Excellent for friendly, motivated self-starters with strong imagination and can-do attitude.
We have positions for a MINIMUM 4-week commitment. You must speak decent English (not perfect, but you must be fluent or almost fluent because you will speak with guests constantly).
For qualified applicants who are Americans or foreigners who have a valid work visa (J1, etc), we can offer paid work. For applicants with special skills we offer opportunities to earn extra money to aid in travel. Please do NOT ask us for paid work if you do not have the legal US visa allowing you to get paid.
Position is for 1-2 months, but it is conditional on a "good fit." Please know that the first week or two give us a chance to assess the viability of the longer-term arrangement. Despite this 1-2 week trial period we are ideally looking for people who are planning to settle in for 1-2 months. If you cannot commit to a 4 week minimum, we are likely not the place for you.
You will be involved in ALL duties of running a hostel, from checking guests in... to the nitty-gritty CLEANING: washing bathrooms and laundry, emptying trash bins, cleaning rooms and daily maintenance (including the opportunity to create your own side-project based on a special interest you have).
When the time is slow we do renovation projects, so we also need a hand with tasks like painting, sanding walls, light carpentry and other types of physical work. We will show you how if you're new at this. If you're an artsy creative type, we invite you to improve the hostel aesthetics and help make the place feel more cozy (with design, drawings, or little artistic touches). At times you will help with marketing ideas and social media upkeep (answering emails, updating our FB and Instagram) and brainstorming on marketing and how we can improve the hostel.
Cet hôte offre l'hébergement et une rémunération.
You will share a dorm room with other travelers. Dorms currently have 3-5 beds maximum, so this is much more private and manageable than most hostels. Your room will have empty beds on slow days, so you'll actually share with fewer people when we have fewer guests.
You will have access to the big, shared kitchen (with microwave, stove, fridge, toaster, pots, pans, etc). Food is NOT provided, but you are welcome to use the big kitchen to store and cook your food. We also have a communal livingroom.
BOSTON is 1 hour away, and NEW YORK CITY is 3 hours away on the bus or train. We are located close to Downtown providence (15 minutes walk). 30 minutes walk to Federal Hill (Providence's hipster area with a vibrant nightlife), and about 20 minutes walk to Brown University (one of the best universities in the US).
