We are interested in hosting people from around the world to share ideas and work collectively towards a resilient approach for our planet. Our family is building gardens & farm with a sharing center in the Cascade Mountains of British Columbia.
We are just starting phase 2 of our permaculture gardens /farm in a rural valley here 15 minute drive east of Hope. We are a family of four and are so excited to construct our alternative house and greenhouse in the next 18 months as part of our 5 year plan. We are off grid and currently in the process of selectively removing trees to make room for chicken pens, greenhouse, ponds, outdoor cooking area, powerhouse and ½ acre of raised bio dynamic gardens. We are also training our 11 month old guardian puppy..she is part Marema/ Great Pyrenees x Šarplaninac or Yugoslavian Shepherd Dog plus we have a 12 year old Jack Russell.
I am a horticulturist with a passion for ethnobotany. We have the privilege to share time and wisdom with friends and elders on similar journeys. Our valley is the traditional food gathering place for First Nations peoples. Arne is a retired military engineer with a love of discovering innovative inexpensive solutions for day to day living.
We will be installing a micro hydro system for power and utilizing local sustainable materials for building construction. Ethnobotanic plant materials will continue to be cultivated for food & medicine.
We will be cultivating local berries and edibles in combination with producing teas, greens and vegetables for local use. Part of our dream is to host education events where the food is prepared from what we grow or seasonal harvest from the forest while sharing the knowledge of identification, uses as food or medicine combined with cultivation of the species.
We request a two week or more stay as there are so many topics to share/discuss and to get to know each other. Of coarse there are exceptions. Weekends are open to explore the recreation area, relax or to volunteer at the community garden. Pot luck dinners where everyone brings a dish for sharing during Sunday dinner. Some of our volunteers choose to hike & camp over night in the local mountains or visit historic areas.
Note: If you are staying in Vancouver overnight check for bedbugs. Keep a large plastic bag to place your bags and clothing into to prevent any bugs hitching a ride.
