Hello, we are a German-Canadian couple and in the process to set up a homestead not far from the town of Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan.
We believe, that a small scale agricultural set up helps us to live and farm in an environment friendly and self sustainable way. In addition to that, supply others with natural grown and raised healthy food.
Homesteading is to us about going back to basics. Old fashioned ways seem to be very modern, because you don't just take care for yourself but for everything and everyone surrounding you.
Nature is a very good teacher and provides you with everything you need!
Using our own minds and hands to create a home, grow a garden, raise healthy animals, live self sufficient - in harmony with nature, rewards us in so many ways.
We like to invite you to learn and enjoy traditional skills and knowledge with us.
We live "off the grid". We heat and cook with wood. Light our house with kerosene lamps. We do not have constant power, just a generator for back up. So, when you come to stay with us, expect to live like on the 'frontiers' 50, maybe 100 years ago.
Help in the house
Our big projects for this year are:
- build a rabbit house
- finishing the chicken coop
- start building a barn
- set up a campfire place
in addition to that:
- greenhouse maintenance
- taking care for the animals
- putting in a garden
- wild crafting herbs & berries
- making jams, syrups and preserves a.s.o.
- making homemade noodles (7 different flavors)
- creat herbal tea and spice mixes
- selling at Farmers Markets
and lots more...
So what can you expect if you come and help us?:
1. learning and experiencing 'the good old ways'
2. self-sustainable living
3. lots of fun
We like to meet people who are interested in a great experience and are willing to help us.
If you are interested we would be very happy to have you here!

English, German and some French
We offer a room in our house, as well as a bunkhouse, or, during the summer month, a tent. That depends on how many volunteers are visiting us at a time. :-)
We also provide 3 meals a day. However, preparing the meals, and cleaning up afterwards is a shared and fun job. There will be possibilities, that the volunteer can cook for him/her-self, if he/she wishes.
We have lots of nature and wildlife around us. During the summer month you will find lots of activities going on like Chuckwagon races, Heritage Days, etc.
Hiking and biking is also an option and lots more.
