Description
We've come from living abroad in the cities and working in the field of climate change, sustainable development, creative leadership...for long.
For years already we had a mix of emotions concerning the state of the world. And somewhere between the order and chaos of the past years, we found an abandoned homestead in the little valley in Slovenia, that we want to bring back to life.
After the first year, with many great Workawayers who became our friends, after all the floods and landslides, we know a little bit more about what awaits us in our very own valley. It holds a promise for us. That we can direct our energies and learning abilities towards something that feels worthwhile.
And the thought of sharing this with family, friends and visitors who will be willing to help us, brings us joy already.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You will be able to live in a small and very authentic community of Carinthia region. Locals are very friendly and you will be able to learn how they live, cook and maintain their farms and homesteads. This is also a place with old mining history, so you will be able to learn how they mined in the centuries before us.
Most of all - you will spend time with us in our valley, which is remote enough that feels like in the middle of nowhere - but with a bike you can still go to the village in 15 minutes. The valley has a creek and hundreds of hectars of forests on both sides. So if you are looking for peace, to work with your hands and to surrender in nature - this is the place.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
We would need help from April to the end of September this year.
DIY and building - We have a wooden off the grid hut just on the land that needs some renovations to be able to serve as a temp stay in. We will also need help with building smaller sheds for animals - chickens, goats and pigs.
After floods recovery - our valley had been hit by the floods, not as much as Crna na Koroskem as nearby village, but still. We have work to do with planting trees, bushes and other edible plants to recover the land around the creeks.
Gardening - We have a kitchen garden already, and this year we will be expanding our fields into growing potatoes and other veggies in bigger quantities so we can be more self sufficient. Since the slopes are steep, we will need help with making terraces and general physical help with turning the land into the growing spaces.
Cooking - We will be hosting people who will stay with us for weeks to help. We are asking for help with cooking for everyone that will stay with us. This would be one hot meal per day during lunch hour from mostly vegetables and home grown meat, and one lighter meal in the evening. Breakfast will be self served.Languages spoken

Accommodation
The accommodation will be very simple. If you have a van or a good tent, this would be a great way to stay with us. We can also provide good simple tents, and for everyone staying with us there is an outside kitchen and compost toilet with shower. So it really is outdoor living. In a very beautiful nature, next to a small river/creek and waterfall.
What else ...
There are good biking trails marked, and many many kilometers of hiking trails. Many small creeks for a quick deep during the warm days. The highest zipline in Slovenia with Via Ferrata to get to, just couple of kilometers away. Also, kayaking and biking in the old mining tunnels.

We stayed with Mihela and Robert for 1 month. We built an outdoor living space on their land in Mirn Grabn!
We cut wood, created a toilet, put in screws with boshies, fixed a roof and we even learned that it was possible to move a chalet with a machine.
At the end of the day, we took a shower under the waterfall… read more
Due to the floods in Slovenia it was unfortunately not possible to stay, Mihela and Robert… read more
