Description
Hi there, welcome to our workaway profile!
*Important info first - We are only open during the summer months, and therefore do not host outside of season. We only host people who'd like to stay for at least two months+. We can only hire people from EU-countries*
Let me start by introducing our family:
At your stay in Mikladal you will be spending most of your time with me; Margret (31 years old).
Back in the days I used to live in Mikladal with my parents and my two sisters, in the house that I now live in and you will as well.
My mother inherited a "house" that's almost a hundred years old, which in the old days was used for drying fish, but for the last 30-40 years it's been used for storage.. in other words, a lot of old junk was heaped up there! But a couple of years ago we got the idea to make it into a cafe, and then started renovating the place. Today it works as a two floor café mostly hosting events for tourists and businesses.
After the statue of the famous seal woman came to Mikladal, there has been a lot of visitors, both local and tourist's from all over the world - the only thing that was missing, was a place where you can sit down and enjoy the view with a cup of coffe and that's what we are doing now, welcoming both turists and locals to enjoy life with us :)Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Mikladalur is a very small village, on the islands Kallsoy! On Kallsoy there are four small villages Syðradalur, Húsar, Mikladalur and Trøllanes. In Mikladalur you can see the famous statue of the sealwoman (Kópakonan) and if you take a hike from Trøllanes to Kallurin, you'll see the beautiful lighthouse and James Bond's memorial stone.
My parents live in Klaksvík which is the second biggest town in the Faroe Islands, with about 5500 inhabitants. If needed, they have a spare room that you would be able to stay at from time to time.
You will get to experience the Faroese culture first-hand.
You will have the opportunity to try some of our local food, that we of course will prepare for you.
You'll live in the beautiful sceneries, with ocean view surrounded by mountains.
You're of course free to go experience all the other parts of our Islands, and we'll gladly guide and help you out.
The Faroese nature is amazing, so if you want, we'll take you out for hikes in our beautiful mountains and to experience our beautiful nature. Just don't expect to much sun, since our summers arren't very warm.Host offers payment in line with the minimum wage
