Area: TuscanyAt moment I'm traveling....back at the end of October....thank you! ***Please read my full profile before you apply & please, do only contact me if you believe you would be suited to my lifestyle *** My name is Nicla, a well traveled Italian living in beautiful Montepulciano. With the help of volunteers over the last 5yrs, I have managed to reclaim a beautiful parcel of land here in Montepulciano. It has been hard work & it continues to be hard work but the results have been life changing (for me and for returning volunteers!) I'm now maintaining the property and trying to be as self sufficient as possible. There is very little that I need to buy to consume now. As I am vegetarian, most of my Breakfasts, Lunches and Dinners come from my own vegetable garden. I like to experiment in the garden. I'm currently trying to grow peanuts, okra, lemongrass, sesame seeds and passion fruit. I've had success with soya beans, chickpeas and of course gorgeous tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant, lettuce & much much more. If the veges aren't eaten fresh, I make pickles and jams, vinegars, body oil out of them. I don't like waste. I like to recycle as much as possible, I keep water use to a minimum, reuse items & use my creativity to create things out of items you would otherwise throw away. I even use the rotten fruit that has fallen from the trees to make vinegar for cleaning. I've learnt many tricks and recipes from helpers/volunteers over the past 5yrs. I love exchanging ideas with people from all walks of life. I've done a lot of travel myself and have a keen interest in different cultures. I'm looking for people who are genuinely interested in a sustainable living, low-waste, vegetarian lifestyle. I would be especially keen to hear from people who have an interest/knowledge in Raw Food, Meditation and Yoga. I am also keen to practice my French. That said, anyone with a genuine interest in all of the above would be very welcome here. I would prefer non-smokers and those who are comfortable with light alcohol consumption. Also, if you would like to eat meat, you are free to purchase your own and cook it in your kitchen. No problem. *** Stays of minimum 2 weeks. I will consider longer stays after the initial 2 weeks. In fact, I'm actually looking for longer term helpers. A single, a couple preferred. ****
Area: NetherlandsWe are a couple who have a beautiful home in Lelystad. We live partime in Lelystad because of our profession. Together with my JM and 2 cats named Kees & Koos we navigate along the Rhein. Because we enjoy life on the canals and rivers so much we decided to buy a recreative barge ourself. But a beauty as she is on the outside we need to renovate the inside up to this decade. Our dream is cruise to France in a couple of years maybe with guests or ... So in the meanwhile we are working our butts of the repaint, remodel the inside with a lacking of talent to do things like carpenting, electric stuff etc etc.. We are " bon vivants professionel" we love that someone helps us with the refitting of our guest room on the barge and we give you the uppertunaty to enjoy living for a short periode of time in our country near the city of Amsterdam ( about 40 minutes traintrip to the city)
Area: North Central MississippiFall/Early winter We have a 35 acre homestead approximately 10 miles south of Oxford, MS. 3 adults, 2 young children, 50 goats, 1 guinea, 33 chickens, 4 livestock guardian dogs, and 7 cats live on the property. We raise gourmet garlic, vegetables, herbs, meat goats, and chickens. We need help with our goats, dogs, chickens, large gardens, harvesting and preserving veggies, building maintenance and construction, wood cutting, and household work. We use our gardens to produce organic food for our families and for sale to a local restaurant. We don’t operate a CSA and we no longer regularly sell at local farmers’ markets. Luddite Alert! We no longer use tillers (our gardens are happier) and don’t use our mowers, bush hogs, or chain saws on a regular basis. If you join us, you will be using a lot of hand tools, human powered saws, and possibly learning to mow with a scythe. Please note, we do not live in the suburbs. If you will be offended by some degree of disorder, don’t volunteer here. We are juggling a lot of balls, getting/keeping the farm in order, goats, chickens, planting, harvesting, putting up veggies, homeschooling grandchildren, large dogs who want to go AWOL…… It is endless. Fun but endless. Things are not neat and, to be honest, they are often barely organized. If you can’t handle impromptu living, we are not the place for you. General Work Requirements: In return for room and board, we expect an average of 25 hours of work a week. We do require that you work at specific times. Now that the fall is settling in we don't have to start as early. We work until about noon. You take a break after lunch while I homeschool the grandchildren etc. You then do some afternoon garden/animal chores. If you are here longer than a week, you will work 6 days a week and take a full day off. You choose the day. Length of stay: We prefer folks who want to stay for two weeks or more. If the volunteer has previous farm/work experience that we need at that time, we can arrange one week stays. We cannot accommodate volunteers who want to stay for less than a week. If you are here for less than 2 weeks, you will not be tending to the dogs and goats. It takes too long to get a volunteer used to the animals and the animals used to them to make that work. You can be around them but you won’t be assuming any responsibility for their care. Transportation: Getting here: Mega Bus now serves Oxford. There is a stop on the campus of the University of MS. We will pick you up and return you to Oxford. Please let us know before you make reservations. Once you are here: While we are only 10 miles from Oxford, there is NO public transportation between our farm and Oxford. If you have a bicycle, it is possible to safely ride to Oxford during the day. However, the road is not safe at night as there are no bike lanes, “shoulders” or consistent lighting. We can, however, arrange to take folks into town when we go. Food preferences: We are omnivores NOT vegetarians. That said, we have had vegans staying with us and it worked well. Living Conditions: We are currently finishing the construction of our volunteer living space. Right now there is an air conditioned/heated sleeping/eating space with a half bath. There is a sink, microwave, and small fridge for food prep. Soon there will be a shower. For now you have to use the shower in one of our two houses. We build much of our own stuff; housing/septic/drainage systems etc. and, if you join us, you may be helping and learning. You have your own space and we provide basic food, coffee, tea, fruit, milk and juice etc. You fix your own breakfast and either your own lunch or your own dinner. I prepare one full meal a day that we all eat together unless you prefer to take the food to your own space. Internet Access: If you have a computer, tablet, smart phone etc. wireless internet access is available for e-mail and social networking. Online gaming, gambling and endless video streaming are not permitted. Laundry facilities are available in both houses. Smoking: You can smoke outside. We do not allow smoking inside our houses, the volunteer space, the barns, or in the gardens. Drugs: You may not use illegal drugs on our property. Languages: We are native English speakers with limited Italian, French, Spanish, and German. We are interested in having volunteers who speak another language so that we can learn from them while they practice their English with us. I am currently learning Spanish and attempting to teach it to our homeschooled grandchildren. If you like children and would like to teach a Spanish lesson once a day, I’m sure you would be an improvement! Music and Art: Everyone on Broken Magnolia loves music and everyone except myself and a 5 year old grandchild play. We live in the MS Hill Country and the spring and summer and early fall are the time for Hill Country Blues festivals. If you have your own transportation, these festivals and the MS Delta and the many Delta blues festivals are an easy drive away. Our son, who lives on the farm, is a professional artist and is interested in having volunteers who would like to work on framing etc. The village we live in has many professional artists. Pets: We cannot accommodate pets. RVs: If you have a small to medium size RV we can arrange to park it and run an electric cord and water hose to it but we don’t have permanent hookups for water or sewage. 2015 Kidding : We now have volunteers in place for kidding.
Area: Swoyambhu, KatmanduI am Janak kapali from kathmandu, Nepal and I am a huge dog lover! Right now I have 7 dogs and I'm hoping to get more. I give all my dogs love, shelter, care and training. I am not perfect but I have a big heart for dogs. To me they are loyal, loveable, my family and my best friends. I run a dog shelter to give dogs proper training and a loving home. I am searching for volunteers from around the world who love dogs as much as I do and who can help me in raising them properly. There are 4 Nepali college students from poor families, who grew up in my childrens home, living at the shelter and learning to raise the dogs but we are looking for extra help because raising 7 dogs is a 24-hour job and there can always be more love for the dogs! I can provide food (Nepali breakfast, lunch and dinner) and accommodation in a room at the shelter. For this service I charge $5 per day per person. All these charges will be spent 100% on the dogs needs and a small part on the college students, as they don't have much. It will be a huge help if some volunteers want to come lend a hand and share their love for dogs. Thank you and God bless you all. ** In case you were worried, all the dogs are vaccinated and have proper paperwork to show for it! **
