Area: NiederösterreichHello! We are a small, open-minded family with 2 kids (8, 10 years) living near the mountains – about 80km south of Vienna. We have a permaculture garden, a forest with big old trees, a Tipi, an original mongolian Jurte (tent), chickens, ducks, a cat and two very special cashgora-goats coming in the very near future – once the fence and the stable is built. We´ve moved here in 2007 and have still lots of exciting plans. Our house is old and we are still renovating, every year a different project. At the moment our kitchen looks like a building site and needs finishing while we are planning the goat-stable, which should be finished this summer. At the same time we are building a big tree-house and the next project is a glass-house! For ecological reasons we try to lead a very simple life, grow our own veggies, bake a lot, eat mostly very healthy and almost vegetarian. So we do not provide meat. We try to reuse and repair as much as possible, We do not have a car, we try to use the bicycles as much as possible. There is a bus station nearby and the trainstation a few km from here. We are founders of a nature connecting institute and a wilderness school and offer courses in survival and old handicrafts for adults and children. But both of us have a job, so we are not at home all day, except at the times of school-holidays. Usually we get up early every day to get started before it gets too hot. In the evening ( from about 9 pm) we mostly need our privacy and our private space in the house. The freedom to do what inspires us is very important to us .Creativity, Sprituality, Music, Nature, Animals, Gardening are the areas in which we learn and experience. We are also much in exchance with other like-minded people, who are gathering together in our Tipi at the fire singing and talking.
Area: MassachusettsFounded in 1913, our Farm is a 650-acre working farm that provides a therapeutic, community setting for adults living with mental health issues such as bipolar, depression, major depression and schizophrenia. Our Farm's mission is to help the people who come here find the inner strengths and outer resources needed to meet the challenges that life imposes. The Farm seeks to provide a family-like community within which all members can find respite and draw strength while receiving the necessary psycho-social rehabilitative support. We work together to operate an organic garden, farm, roadside cafe, maple syrup operation and more.
Area: tamparuli, sabahGreetings from "The Land Below The Wind" - Sabah, Malaysia's North Borneo. My name is Tina, a local of Kota Kinabalu , and my Australian husband Daniel have settled in a beautiful valley around 250 meters above sea level with our pets and we would like to invite you to experience rural living in the tropics. Located approximately 40km North of Kota Kinabalu just an hour’s drive from Kota Kinabalu International Airport. We live nearby a very peaceful village and our neighbour is about 1km away. The nearest town is Tamparuli which is around 5.5km from the property. Tamparuli town is situated along the way to UNESCO world heritage listed Mt Kinabalu National Park, the town is also well known for its big suspension foot bridge - there's even a popular song about it!... every Wednesday, indigenous farmers and traders gather at the "Tamu" where visitors come to shop for local produce, rural residents from the hills do their weekly shopping and meet up under the bright umbrellas and raintrees...it certainly is very colourful scene. Tuaran beach is roughly 20km from town and Kiulu white water rafting less than 20min away. Our property is surrounded by rubber trees and secondary jungle. We are currently building up a 10acre fruit orchard, which primarily consists of the king of fruits durian. Other tropical fruit trees include; tarap, mango, rambutan, watermelon, pineapples and many other fun things. We have just started phase 2 of our project which is building a guesthouse.we hope to have the bulk of the work done by december 2014.Local contractors are working at our place daily but the serenity wont be affected too badly as we are doing minimal earthworks and heavy construction. We dont ask volunteers to work onsite due to safety issues, theres more than enough other supporting work to do in anycase! If you enjoy the heat, peace and outdoor work then our property is perfect Workaway holiday for you!
Area: BrittanyHi, Mark and I are renovating a farm house here in beautiful Brittany. We left the rat race and moved here 3 years ago. I used to be a uni lecturer (Social Policy) and Mark was self employed.) We have a variety of animals, and grow our own food. We no longer have the opportunity to travel because of our small holding commitments so opening our home to Workaways is the next best thing. The only thing better than living in our lovely location is giving other people the opportunity to share the experience. There are many outdoor pursuits available in our area, from horse riding to canoeing. There are lakes, forests, trails and neolithic sites right on our doorstep and a variety of beaches within 40 minutes of the house. Bikes will be made available. We like to nip down to the beach on a fine day, that's the beauty of living in Central Brittany, you can choose the best coast according to the weather forecast. Although our house still needs a lot of work, bedrooms, the bathroom and toilet are all renovated and you will have a comfortable bed, modern facilities, good food and a warm welcome any time of the year.
