Area: Lower NormandyHi, My husband, Barry, and I are looking for some help with general maintenance, gardening and renovating a small "animal house" in the garden, ( which stores garden equipment etc). There is a small old, stone cottage for accommodation but as it is not open in the winter and we go away for the cold weather, we only need helpers from spring until autumn each year. We first came to France for a visit in January 2002 to stay with friends for a weekend. Before we went back home we fell in love with, and bought, a tiny cottage . It was a total surprise to us, and all who knew us, and was meant to be a holiday home, but we came more and more often until we decided that we wanted to live here full time. We have wonderful panoramic views across the Vallee de la See, there is no light or noise pollution and there was plenty of work for us to do, so when I retired (I was a Police Officer, so we were only in our mid to late 50's) we turned the barn into a slightly bigger house and turned the weed patch into a garden. We love meeting new people so we let the little house out and have lots of visitors in the summer, but try to fit in as much travelling as we can ( we have a camper van and also like to go long haul in the winter). I am vegetarian and grow as many vegetables as I can and am learning about plants too, Barry seems to just be continually lawn cutting! I like going for a short ride on my bike most mornings and will swim whenever we venture into a town with a pool or go to the beach on a hot day, otherwise the garden keeps us busy. I love meeting people and would appreciate some help and advice around the property. If anybody could improve my computer skills and French too that would be a bonus.
Area: VictoriaA little (almost organic) market garden specialising in rare and unusual fruits and vegetables and selling at local farmers markets. I am dedicated to promoting home food growing in the general community. We are situated in a small rural town in Victoria. I am especially happy to have helpers who love getting their hands in the dirt and have a future dream of building their own plant based business or market garden and am willing to provide teaching of all facets of food growing and selling to anyone who is interested, along with accomodation and meals in return for a few hours work each day. Work could include: Weeding, helping at the markets, harvesting, seed saving, hand pollinating, planting and more. I like variety in my work and offer that to all helpers. Small cabin for one or two people and meals with the family. No smokers or drinkers please. International helpers must have own insurance and current work visa as well as being respectful and speaking English. There is a bus service from Melbourne or Mt Gambier to get here and plenty of activities for your days off including bushwalking, local pool and bus to nearby towns and shops, sightseeing. Internet available. Washing water is restricted in the warmer months and unless we get rain, there may only be enough for two or three showers a week in summer.
Area: EnglandWe're a small family based 5 miles out of Glastonbury. In the Village of Lower-Godney, we're on the beautifully idyllic Somerset levels... We're looking for someone like minded to come and work and play with us :) We are Angelina, Bailey and Bobby (Roberta). Coco and Mimi are our cats and soon we'll have 3 hen friends living out back! We're a Vegetarian/non-dairy, non smoking/drugs house hold so would expect anyone coming to stay in our home to respect our choices and to live as we do when you are here. I enjoy an occasional glass of wine or some mead around a fire but nothing too heavy :) We try to live as naturally as we possibly can; Eating organically and locally. Creating our own potions, balms, healthcare, skincare products plus household cleaners. Making the odd item of clothing (when I've the time!) And finding other creative ways to recycle etc We're all a bit musical - My 15 yr old son loves his guitar. Myself my djembe.. And we've a piano available for anyone willing to share a tune with us! As for my 2.5yr old daughter, she's got a song for almost everything - When she's in the mood :) We're all very nice and a bit bonkers when you get to know us. Although we've been in our home a year, we're just establishing our place in the village now as I was unwell for while. Now I'm me again, I'm looking for some friendly help to keep things moving along :) I've got lots of ideas and put great energy into anything I do.. But alas, with a toddler I'm unable to move as quickly as I would like on some levels and so I'm looking for help/assistance over a variety or areas. We're looking for those who can offer help in a few of the areas listed... Not ALL in one visit!
Area: LanguedocWe now have enough helpers for Spring 2014. We may need help in October/November 2014 but suggest you contact us later in the summer when our plans will be clearer. Thanks. Our Chateau is a 6 bedroom home running activity holidays and retreats in the spring and autumn. It is run by me, Julia and my partner Philip. We both enjoy welcoming volunteers to help with the many tasks such a big enterprise involves. Volunteers are treated as part of the family and invited to join in when we spend time exploring the amazing Languedoc countryside. We have bikes available for Helpers to use in their time off so that they can explore locally and visit the different villages with their shops and bars. We are always happy to take you to the train station on your days off if you want to venture further afield. We are often able to invite our Helpers to join in certain events with course guests ( if there is room in the cars) such as a local visit, a wine tasting or an evening reading of poetry or prose. As you will be sharing our home you will , of course, have access to WiFi internet, laundry, TV room and a large library of books and games. During Autumn 2014 we will be maintaining the house and gardens so will need help with cleaning, painting, chopping wood, and helping Philip in the gardens.
Area: LeinsterWE HAVE AN OPENING ImMEDIATELY for two practical, farming- friendly workawayers for two to three weeks to help out with the garden, farm and painting if the weather dictates. We are living on a farm just one hour by bus from Dublin in the foothills of the Wicklow mountains in (South) Co Kildare. We are a family of 7 - five children (14-22) though they are mostly away from home these days, along with dogs, cats, ponies, hens and cattle. Our agricultural industries are beef, tillage and forestry, and we farm in an environmentaLly friendly way from a large 18th century house and garden which is open to the public. We live just outside the village of Moone. We have a tennis court, lovely farm walks, bicycles. A couple of km away is the 11th century Kilkea Castle, home to the Dukes of Leinster. A great cycle for the day takes you on a tour of Round Towers and High Crosses, or perhaps take the bus to Dublin or Kilkenny (one of the smallest cities you'll ever see!). The peaceful monastic mountain retreat of Glendalough is 45 minutes by car.
