Area: British ColumbiaDo you dream of mountains, log cabin, wildlife, canoeing, fishing, hiking .... ? Welcome on board. We, a family of three, run a Bed & Breakfast, and grow an organic garden. Our property is located in Tete Jaune Cache in the Robson Valley between the Cariboo and Rocky Mountains, only 10 min. from Mt. Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, and 1 hour west of Jasper, Alberta. We love the outdoors and our helpers will have opportunities for hiking, biking, canoeing, fishing (depending on season), starting right at our doorstep. The world famous "Berg Lake Trail" at Mount Robson Provincial Park is only a 10 minutes drive away. In the summer months we need help with the guest rooms (cleaning, checking guests in), the garden, and some general maintenance. Should be able to work independently. We speak english and german. Local meat and eggs as well as the vegetables from our garden are part of our home cooked meals, that we will share with you. We can accommodate 1 person in our guest bedroom. To get to us, you can either take the Greyhound bus www.greyhound.ca or the train www.viarail.ca to Valemount, BC, where we can pick you up. We enjoy to share our place with B&B guests and volunteers alike !
Area: UlsterWe are a friendly family who live in a town located in Donegal - a beautiful corner of North-West Ireland. Two children, boys aged 11 and 7 plus one Schnauzer dog and a new little kitten . We would welcome someone who is kind-hearted, friendly, clean and honest to visit us, experience Donegal and help out where possible. When we are not working or at school we like to walk our dog, go to the beach, listen to music, do creative projects, cook, read, explore, climb trees, garden, do yoga, see our friends, watch movies and play computer games (too much sometimes!) We would love someone who could teach us new skills as well -maybe some new foods to cook, some lovely art ideas, teach us how to play guitar! We will welcome the right person into our home but please be available to Skype before-hand so that we can talk to you 'in person'. If you have references or testimonials to send in advance that would be very helpful. We are meat-eaters and try to be healthy with our food-choices. We are also an alcohol-free house, but if you wish to drink alcohol there are plenty of pubs close by! Smokers must smoke outside the house also.
Area: Oxfordshire, EnglandHi! We are Maddy and Neil and have two young children aged 5 and 7. We live in the countryside in Oxfordshire in a pretty 300 year old cottage with views of fields and animals and red kites circling above, just 10 miles from the famous city of Oxford and within easy reach of London (40 minutes by train from our local station). Although our house is in a rural location, we are close to a motorway and do sometimes hear noise from it although this is not intrusive. Maddy is a part time teacher and Neil works for a fashion company in London. We hosted three Workaway couples in 2013 and will have availability again from May 2014. We are looking for hard-working, motivated and committed couples who know what they are doing and can work alone without too much input from us as we both lead busy lives and are not always here to monitor what's being done. We need people who can manage their own time effectively, can complete tasks without supervision and are happy to work outside in typical British weather (often wet, even in summer!) Volunteers need to be physically fit and have plenty of stamina and have suitable clothing and footwear for outdoor work. They need to be able to get themselves up and start work by 9.30am on working days. All volunteers need their own suitable insurance. The opportunity would suit an English speaking couple (non smokers only please) who are looking for self-contained accommodation and their own space who have plenty of energy for physical work (mainly outdoors if weather allows). We have 8 acres of land, a cat called Oscar and have a small herd of black Dexter cows which we breed for meat. We have planted an orchard and dug vegetable patches. Last summer we bought an apple press to make our own juice. We also have an acre of garden and a heated (in July and August) outdoor swimming pool which you are welcome to use if the weather is warm enough. The nearest village is 0.4 miles away (10 minutes walk) and has a village hall with yoga and dance classes and a lively cricket club. There is a bus stop in the village with regular buses to Oxford (the famous ancient university, lots of culture and museums, galleries, shops, bars and cafes, shops, cinemas, theatres etc) and our lovely local market town of Thame (beautiful buildings, weekly market, lots of pubs and cafes, supermarkets and shops, a library and a leisure centre). We live opposite an organic farm (vegetables, pigs, sheep and horses) and they have a weekly farm shop selling produce, bread, cakes and local jams etc. Our local train station (Haddenham and Thame- 8 miles away) has frequent trains to London but Neil is also happy to give you a lift to North Acton tube station in London on Mondays to Fridays as he drives there each day for work, as long as you can manage an early start! He could also bring you home again in the early evening. There are also pretty walks to explore from the house, including the Oxfordshire Way, and sports facilities at Thame leisure centre.
