Area: MayenneCOUPLE Wanted for Small fairytale castle in FRANCE Available Dates: February 15th, 2013 - April 30th COUPLES ONLY, PLEASE! We are a couple with an 11 year old child, 2 very loving dogs, chickens, 2 ponies, 1 gentle horse, a goat and fish. We are relaxed, flexible, trustworthy and friendly, and look for caretakers who share these same qualities to replace our much-loved current couple (who are moving on after a wonderful 1 year stay). Our chateau is a 150-year-old neo-Renaissance castle on 10 hectares of land in a region famed for its history and beauty. As it is neo-Renaissance (1850’s) and not medieval, it is in remarkably good condition. All of the rooms (4 main rooms + 7 bedrooms) are in a good state of repair as we have undergone a process of updating the chateau since its last restoration in the 1970s. However, given its age, it always needs maintenance in the areas of plumbing, electricity, clearing of gutters, etc. The chateau operates as a family home, occasionally hosting parties and events, and also features a holiday cottage on the grounds. The chateau is located in an idyllic location in the Western Loire Valley of France, and is only 2km away from the nearest town with everything one could want: supermarkets, bakeries, butchers, bars, even its own racecourse. The nearest city is 15km away, and features a high-speed train connection. We are only 1.5 hours SW of Paris by train. We are also equidistant to all of the castles of the Loire Valley, Mont St. Michel, the Normandy Beaches, and Brittany, as well as many attractions locally. The region is very hospitable, and we try to be as well! We care more about the ‘fit’ of the couple, in personality, skills, English-language ability and commitment, than in age. Our previous couple were a vibrant pair in their early 50's. If you are looking for a beautiful French adventure and think that you might fit our requirements, please contact us! We'd love to hear from you.
Area: ReykholtWe are a young couple that have a small environmentally friendly tourism farm in Iceland. In the land of our farm lies one of the largest lava caves in the world, Víðgelmir. This lava cave is preserved and we are looking for a couple in very good physical condition to help us with guided tours to the cave for people from all around. Also for other tasks regarding the tourism farm such as cleaning cottages, making breakfast and maintenance of the farm. The farm is located in the west of Iceland, close to the second largest glacier in the county, in the middle of the nature. It has many hiking paths, rivers, lakes, a waterfall, lava fields, Icelandic horses, birds and fish. We are looking for couples, preferably with guiding and service experience, to participate in our exchange program from end of May until the beginning of September and for a minimum stay of 9 weeks. On your days off you will have a car to be able to travel around Iceland. Since 2010 one of the main objectives of the tourism farm is to fund an artistic project. As an exchange worker, you are a very important member of our farm and act as a representative of our organization to the community at large. At the farm we believe in the the complex value of the infrastructure more than of the money that it is set to cost and this is why we believe in exchange. Furthermore we appreciate the work and achievements with a constant concern for people’s well being, needs and longings instead of a price. Our farm is a small company that is taking on a larger project that is only possible with the help of people that support and agree with what we propose and, most importantly, that feel that this experience can give back to them as much as to us. For a better understanding of what you can expect as an exchange worker and what is expected of you we ask you to contact us, and tell us about yourself, so we can send you more detailed information about the exchange program. Inquiries for the summer are welcome during the previous autumn and winter.

Area: KeralaSarang is a center for learning sustainable lifestyle. The main campus is located on a remote hilltop and has been developed as a live textbook for environmental re-generation, soil regeneration, watershed management and natural farming. Our family is a growing alternative school. We have 9 children living & learning with us, from age 6 to 20 years. Gopalakrishnan and Vijayalekshmi, the founders of the school have relocated to a sub-campus for the student's art studies. Gautham, the couple's son, his wife Anuradha were supporting the school through their work. In June 2013 their tiny family, including 3 year old Hiranya and 4 month old little boy are planning to move up to the farm. We intend to work on construction using wood, repairing a well, removing soil from a check dam reservoir and cultivation of seasonal crops. On our list is also the documentation of biodiversity on the farm and a comparative study with the adjacent area. We would love hands to share the work of building a truly sustainable center for learning.
