Area: The Loire Valley***LOOKING FOR COUPLES IN NOVEMBER - PAINTING (Walls/Ceilings) EXPERIENCE APPRECIATED :) *** Hello there! We are an Irish-American family living in the heart of the Loire Valley. Porter hails from Alabama originally and Louise is from the West of Ireland. We have two daughters, Emily (almost 5) and Olivia (almost 2) and our newborn son, James (born August 2014). Our background is in Art: Art History, Fine Art, Photography and Restoration and we are passionate about old things! Our house is a renovated 17th century farmhouse (originally fortified) complete with origianal arrow-slits! We have recently purchased the old butcher shop in our village and are looking for volunteers to help us turn the premises into apartments and an antique shop. Over the years, we have ammassed quite a collection of 'things' and are in need of some strong arms and organised minds to help us move objects from our storage units to the new warehouse/shop. We may also need some help with general maintenance/gardening and babysitting. Ideally, a fun, dynamic couple would be our ideal 'help' solution. We envisage a maximum of 5hrs per day per person, 4-5days per week. Our house is located just 200meters from the Loire river and the region is an absolute haven for nature lovers, cyclists and history enthusiasts. We live within minutes drive/cycle from many of the major Loire Valley castles including the medieval chateau of Langeais, the chateau d'Usse (otherwise known as the 'Sleeping Beauty' castle), the Renaissance chateau of Azay-le-Rideau and the medieval fortress and town of Chinon. We can supply bicycles and canoes to our volunteers so that they can enjoy exploring the region in their free time and use of a car as necessary.
Area: South AustraliaWe live between Adelaide and Melbourne in what was once a desert. Now it is green, and much has been learnt about farming in this unique land of australia! Come and learn a little :) We love to share life with you. Be ready to jump on the ute, or tractor, or on the motorbike to see a little different side of Australia. Our food is simple, but certainly enough. We share what we have. Your challenge is to gain the trust of mum and dad (and understand their 'australian - and BE understood!!) so that they have a day off while you are here!! It will be great to have you. Come for a week, with a view to 2.
Area: New South WalesWe are a down to earth family seeking the company and help of other earthy people from all walks of life. My husband and I and our 4 children 12, 9, 4 and 3 live in a huge old farm house on a large scale irrigated cotton property near Burren Junction. We are repainting the farm homestead and re-establishing gardens, fencing and a tennis court after years of neglect. We are relatively isolated and usually only venture into town once a week. We have a long term plan to grow all our vegetables and fruit on farm and provide our own milk, meat and eggs. We enjoy working and socialising with others and we have a friendly but noisy family. We aim to share information, views and ideas with other open minded people who are happy to work along side us towards a goal for a more sustainable and enriched life.
Area: New South WalesWe are a young couple building our dream in a rural area on a 30 acre farm two hours North West of Sydney. We are in the beautiful Lower Hunter Valley just one hour from the coast. We ask that everyone who wants to visit to be able to stay for at least 7days to get more out of your stay with us, and if we are both happy longer stays are possible. Most of our farm is un-touched bushland with lots to be explored and do. Wollombi is the closest town just 7km down the road, it is a small village but busy on the weekends. It is a good day trip or weekend away destination for most Sydneysiders. The Hunter Valley is known as a wine region so if you’re into wine there is a lot to check out... but we don’t drink any alcohol and want to keep our farm a smoke, drug and alcohol free zone. On the farm we have 17 chickens, 2 roosters, 2 small ponies, 1 old baby goat, 1 old baby sheep, 1 dog and 1 cat called Kitten, we also have a happening veg garden and a young Food Forest. We are getting ready to build our home out of recycled materials; everything on our farm has its place and use. We believe water is life, without water all life will cease so please be mindful with our water use. Our aim is to run weekend and day classes and workshops teaching what we know and how we live our life. We practice permaculture, nature awareness, small scale farming, living sustainably, spiritual healing, healing through food, as well as hosting vegetarian and vegan cooking classes and retreats. Kylie has a small boutique tea company, of wild herbs that grown around the local area, we make teas for medicinal purposes. She writes a cooking and farm blog page. Kylie has been a full time volunteer for 2 years travelling around the world, so we know how to make a good fun day on the farm, and you will never be hungry - we know food is payment and we are just so grateful for the help. Aarons is a very busy Landscape Designer, Horticulturalist and Structural Contractor who often needs help on the job; so the possibility of payed work is there for the right persons. Aaron uses this knowledge on the farm especially when it come to building and plants, and is very happy to share knowledge and skills with those that are interested. We have a large range of work for people with various skills and abilities ranging from work on the land to work around the home. Please advise us of your interests, abilities and/or skills if any.
