Area: Schleswig-HolsteinWe live in the north of Germany near the baltic sea. There we have a riding-school and teach academical riding and horsemanship. Also there are two holiday apartments to let. So we need help in the house, in the garden and perhaps in the stable.
Area: British ColumbiaWe live very remote in the wilderness, 2 hours from the next town (Canada, BC) – you must love nature, wilderness, stillness and farm work to come here. Gravel road, NO public transit, no traffic. A town trip to Burns Lake means a whole day (200 km) trip, therefore pickup /return dates need to be discussed and planned. We live right on a large Lake (320 km) with a spectacular view over the lake with some islands and the mostly snow covered mountains in the distance. The sunsets over the lake are stunning. You can watch the beaver on the beach or the breeding Bald Eagle pair from the house, the Ospreys' nest is to view in walking distance. There is Moose, White-tailed and Mule Deer as well as bears (black bears and grizzlies sometimes),wolves, lynx and cougars in our area. We have two small kids who are eager to learn good things from you- if it is language, music, sports, building etc.. They would love to see and play with other „workawayer“ kids here as well. We do homeschooling and the kids like exciting projects. Farm Life is hard work: We have dairy sheep (ca. 30 Icelandic and Rideau-Arcott) (and soon 60!!! lambs), which we milk some in the summer. We make joghurt and quark and other cheese (depending on time we have). We do butcher our animals. Other animals include 8 Lamas, 2 Alpacas and 4 guardian dogs (no pets, not to be petted!!) for protection of sheep (as well as farm and family), chickens, 3 cats, as well as 3 horses (only for experienced people) and a pony. Our pony needs training! We have a large vegetable garden as well as a potato and garlic field. We started large permaculture hillbeds. Apart from regular garden (LOTS OF WEEDING in SUMMER = MAIN WORK) work (also some picking and drying wild herbs), there is cleaning work in the forest to do, some wood treatment (completely natural) of wooden structures, some fence building, fire wood etc.. Work our hours are different depending of what needs to be done. Projects have to be finished. Therefore there can be long work hours or sometimes short. If you come here we expect you to wanting to learn and share farm life, and that means take part in it. Depending on possibilities we might have a bed/room in a simple old (and not fancy nor luxury) guest house available, or you sleep on a small loft in our small house but you can also sleep in a shed or your tent. We have to share one small bathroom with several people, but an outhouse and the lake (no saop) are avilable too. So far we had good experiences with many volunteers. They were eager, self-motivated, independently and involved themselves and we had a lot of fun – we loved also sometimes being cooked for ....Yummy. With two small homeschooled kids sharing everything and one person doing most of the farmwork, we are happy to have company and help in all areas. We live as self-sufficient and simple as possible (our house is small and simple, no luxury) and do this as a lifestyle out of our conviction, we buy as little as possible. Therefore food is simple and we eat what we have, we avoid sugar and eat very little sweets (health reasons), if you need that (SWEET STUFF), bring it yourself, but please not for or in front of our kids. We eat meat (mostly our own lamb or Lama). To us, organic farming is the best way to live healthy and care for mother earth. Thus our „agricultural“ animals grow as organic as possible too. We like to share our beautiful place with new friends. We like to meet people with similar interests in organic farming, permaculture, self sufficent life style, as well as in connectedness and awareness. We always can learn from each other and need reminders. In the winter it is possible to do cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ice fishing (to get a fishing license is your responsibility), sledging, sometimes horse back riding etc..Our vision is to find some likeminded homeschooling families or teacher? to live here with us longterm. If you want to stay with us, minimum stay is a month, town is quite far (100 km) and picking up means a lot of effort, time, money and organization for us. There is no public transportation out here!!! References would be great . You need be able to work by yourself also, because with homeschooling and other work (desk and kitchen) indoors, we only can be outside usually in the afternoon. We expect you to keep your living quarters (house) nice, clean and tidy, help with cooking/dishwashes beside of farm chores. Please NO SMOKERS (and NO DOPErs/no drugs). We look forward to meet you and hope to all have a great time again. PS: We do not have WIFI and Internet access is very limited. No cell phone access either.
Area: Samoeng, BokeawHello. My name is Yuki and my husband's name is John. We are a family with a young baby, Misato, living in northern Thailand located in a Karen village, deep within the mountains, about 4hrs from Chiangmai city in the Samoeng area and we are still in the early stage of making our home self-sufficient. We welcome volunteers to come join our family! We cut local timber and bamboo from the area for all of the building materials. We want to provide a learning opportunity more than anything and as a local, John is extremely knowledgable about everything you need to know to live a Karen lifestyle. So in return for your help you will be able to experience hill tribe village life and live like a local, meet other villagers and travel to nearby markets, learn traditional methods of cooking, how to recognize local fauna/flora, basic hunting skills, how to make local rice whiskey or a slingshot and do some jungle trekking to nearby waterfalls. We live a very simple life here with solar power (we don't have a fridge, tv, washing machine etc but you can charge cameras or mobile phones from our solar power). You will be experiencing truly traditional Karen village life here. If you are interested in learning about our lifestyle please contact us. Please note that due to rainy seasons sometimes we can't get to the closest town so this opportunity would probably suit someone who has a flexible travel schedule.

Area: Midi-PyrénéesWe share our life between Paris and this authentic French village. I live with 3 men in Paris, two boys 20 and 15 and their daddy...and 3 horses and a dog... We have recently bought this old house along the Viaur River which flows continuously and is not polluted...it is like a natural swimming pool. The house is in the village with many accommodation places, 2 bars, 3 restaurants, a pizza restaurant, 2 food markets, a pharmacy, post office, library, and a hardware store. I buy my organic vegetables at the local open market. Our home is in a very historic area, just few minutes from Najac, Saint Antonin, Cordes sur Ciel, Albi and Villefranche de Rouergue. After just a few minutes walking, you are in a wonderful nature area ...if you like old stone buildings or wild nature you will love our place.
