Area: Southern California (inland not on the coast)I have been a host for over three years. I am a single middle aged yogini with adult children who live outside my home. I have Chloe the cat, five hens and one rooster. I am primarily a vegetarian. I work outside my home 40+ hours a week. I enjoy the company of likeminded people, I love to practice am yoga, gardening, hiking and singing kirtan with friends. I rise early and turn in early. I am a simple person, not a micro manager, nor religious-choosing spirituality instead. I enjoy hosting yoginis, artists and musicians. I would be elated to host a guitarist willing to play music in the shala. my location in east county of San Diego, California, Offers Energy Exchange. Private yoga shala & garden community is seeking a yogini interested in work exchange. Students of a yogic lifestyle and those who are willing to practice, share, experience and grow. This yoga shala & Micro Farm Community is a spiritual community in it’s infancy. The Shala is wonderful, private, quiet & serene, with many trees and plenty of space for your personal practice, service to others and gardening.
Area: MontanaOur Farm is a quaint family farm in the valley, with all sorts of animals including alpacas, goats, chickens, two old cats and just one goose. The family is made up of five kids and two parents, but all the kids are out of the house except for two, the youngest and my 25 year old daughter who is home before going off on another world adventure. We are looking to fix up the house, clean up the alpaca barn, plant a garden in the spring, build a Green House, do some painting inside during the winter, and many other tasks that we would need help with.
Area: Kotadeniyawa, 11232, Gampaha DistrictMy wife Jeanne Thwaites owns and I operate a 42 acre organic coconut / teak estate in the Coconut Triangle of Sri Lanka. This is Jeanne's ancestral property and we have been living on it since 1999. Since we came here we have been working towards turning a bi-culture plantation in to a model of restorative bio-diversity to which end we have spent the last 14 years developing infrastructure and restoring soil fertility through remineralization. We use renewable energy in the form of Solar, Wind and Bio-gas generation and it is our aim to eventually get off the National Electricity grid. We practice regenerative agriculture and are replanting our teak wood lot with indigenous forest trees designed to restore bio-diversity and make the estate a model for easy emulation. We hope to ensure financial viability by producing the highest value added Extra extra Virgin coconut oil from by cold pressing the coconut in a hydraulic press operated by renewable energy sources. At the same time we are inspired by Marcin Jakubowski's Open Source Ecology and will be developing his Global Village Construction kit in a Sri Lankan context. Jeanne is an award winning photographer and author who won the 1998 Gratiaen Award for Creative Writing in English with her collection of short stories and reflections, It's a Sunny Day on the Moon. Her last book, a novel, Murder in the Pettah was published by Penguin India. She has previously authored photographic essays, Horses of the West, Mother and Child and her reflections on marriage, Once is Enough was cited in two divorces. Every book she ever wrote is collected on the Internet.
Area: North Rhine WestphaliaI try to live a spiritual and more alternative life including daily meditation. I try to take my food out of the land and I am also a practicing freegan. I live in a very old small Village 50 km south west of Cologne. Nearly 4 years ago I decided to leave the big city life, to start a more natural way of being. My place is a little ancient farm with a very beautiful land containing a little stream, source, fishponds, little forest, vegetable garden... even if it’s still chaotic and messy I love this tiny piece of earth. For one year I have run this place alone and so i really appreciate helping hands. The jobs are varied and diverse, From finishing the summer kitchen (with straw bales and clay), building the bread oven, constructing of a small garden house, help in the veggie garden, working on the fishponds, building stone walls, renovating the 400 year old farmhouse, help in the kitchen, help me with my two amazing little daughters who are living spare time with me, building a new barn, help in the violin workshop...in fact changing chaos into paradise. I try to use as much as possible ecological materials like sheep wool isolation, clay walls, wood frame constructing, stone walls...... For me as host it’s not simply looking for helping hands, I like to share my house, lifestyle, dreams, knowledge and enjoying the time together. I like to cook together, singing round the campfire and all this hippi stuff. I have already had more than 70 workawayers, helpers and woofers, and my experience shows me that I prefer People above 21, who have no problems with breakfast at 9:00, and see themselves as open minded, spiritual, Rainbow people, colourful, easy going... About my self: I am a Master Violin Maker and Music therapist i have a love for ancient methods and skills and try to grow my vegetables in a biodynamic, permaculture style including the rhythm of the moon. Further i am busy with different natural and shamanic healing and tantric traditions. I love making music, joining rainbow gatherings,.... Living here is very basic. Depending on the number of helpers it can happen that you have to share a room with other workawayers Workaway for me, is a great opportunity to invite the world to my little place and to help me realise my dream of a more sustainable life. Without all the helping hands i wouldn’t be able. It’s for me a matter of sharing and I really like to host people.
