Area: SW Turkey, Pick Bodrum PeninsulaWe are in south-west corner of Turkey, in TURGUTREIS-BODRUM, a very lucky area with a generous sunshine, some fertility, and beautiful scenery. We started our project, 2 years ago. Our small farm, where we experiment Perm-a-culture and Natural Farm principles, is couple of 2 km away from centre of Turgutreis. Here we are starting to make sustainable farming according to Perm-a-culture principles and Natural Farming and Visiting/Inviting Children to teach and learn the 5R’s, Animal Love, Loving the Nature, Establishing Contact with the Alternative and Sustainable Life, Learning Foreign Language etc. 5R’s are 1. Refuse: Say no to things you don't need 2. Reconsider: Ask yourself, do I really need this? 3. Reduce: Use less of what you do use. 4. Re-use: If you can use it again, do. 5. Recycle: If you cannot do the above 4, then recycle! Our farm used to comprise of arid, barren, dry landscape, all of which we made more productive over the past years. Mainly we have orange and tangerine trees and, and different fruit trees. We have some sheep, goats, ducks, turkeys, and chicken. Our chickens get around under the trees. We have started our farm just few years ago, trees just growing, so, being a new farm, we have lots of things to do. Therefore, we need your different ideas, visions, perspectives and your participation. Also, we are at the planning stage for scrap and rubbish handling, so there will be hydraulic presses, pyrolysis plant etc., thus we need also competitive people with technical background and/or capabilities! As we are only a volunteer group we cannot afford to purchase brand new equipment, mostly we are gathering scrap equipment and convert them into equipment we can use. We like to make Natural way of Farming, we are converting once so started Tangerine-farm into a Food Forest, that is why, now we are planting some other fruit and non-fruit tress between the olive trees. You will experience some practices of Natural Farming. We are growing our own food, vegetables, particularly! We have accommodation for you in our small building on the farm and plan to extend it according to the growth of our volunteers. We can accommodate up to 6 friends in existing building. As our farm is close to town and beaches, (20min walk) you will have opportunity to enjoy the beaches, and for those on off duty hours days, can be driven to other beaches around the peninsula as well. For students who like to qualify a higher education, MSc or PhD, or just a good college, the work you will be doing here will appear as a big Plus, same on graduates applying for jobs. As I am a certified mountain climbing and hiking guide, I plan to take tours for discovering the natural flora and fauna of the peninsula as well! Towards the summer, a friend of hours will join also, and he will start scuba course as well!. I do not want to call it -volunteering work experience- but -sharing life with us- ; learning from each other’s experiences, we design the life in our farms together, expand our horizons together, use our skills in a productive way, and contribute to the nature as much as we can. My philosopy is that we like to s h a r e our life here with you :: all kind of work, whatever it is ; all our food, whatever we have ; enjoy the life, whatever we can do / good or bad, easy or difficult, a lot or a little, sweet or bitter ::: we share all kinds of tastes of life. We housekeep our building together, prepare our breakfast, lunch, and dinner together. There is no management, there is no manager, no workers here :: we are all equal. If you are ready for such a life style :: welcome. Life is a very complicated perfect great joke :: if you have some sense of humour, if you have a smile at your face that comes from your inner self :: welcome. If your face wants to smile, let it / if it doesn’t, make it. In our farm we irrigate our trees, collect products, design our field. As the Perm-a-culture suggests, we try to design our life so intelligently to have more leisure to enjoy the life and the nature. On the teaching project; We visit schools, cafes, municipalities, workers/labour associations, craft-men’s associations to teach and share how we manage to develop a sustainable eco-culture in our region. We teach how to reduce the waste and energy consumption, and how to reuse/recycle the resources as much as possible. Our Family is Me (Saim Yigit Bayrak), Founder of the Project, Utku Ataylan and Anna Nickolaeva from Moscow; we work together, the Nature, and if you like to be part of this dynamic family, You!.. Working hours :: we do not have scheduled hours. When we have some work to do, we work / little or very late, we work. When we want to have free time, we have it. I hate to limit the life in hours. I hate the measures, calculations, accounts, scales / I try to hear the beautiful voice of the natural order. But on the other hand, especially for visiting teaching, we have to obey the provided schedules And for the collection, setting up pots/dumpsters, we have to make shifts, Thus, averagely, we estimate the life as follows. The gathering, setting up and recycling are processes that need to be executed around the clock. Also the pyrolysis plant to be erected and also the shredding, melting etc. need to be running around the clock. Thus, we suggest we will devide the teams in groups and everyone will have chance to work in different fields, so at the end of a period, each one of us will be able to run all the equipment and run the operation individually. on top of this, daily routines like cooking, cleaning, washing etc. necessary for living will be also done on shifts by the volunteers. 2-3 * 2 hours for collecting/shredding/separating/recycling etc. 1 hours on farm 1 hours on the household works 1-2 hours visiting/teaching Kids/Municipilaties/Coffe Houses 2 Hours Language Courses, 1-2 Hours Yoga, Taichi, Stretching, Meditation. These hours would be about 4-8hours of working, 3-4hours social activity and learning, 12 hours recreational time, and 1 day off for everyone per week. Besides, we plan to organize every second weekend an excursion to a site/city within reasonable distance to explore the Western and Southern Turkey! As an ex licensed tourist guide, I will personally guide our tours! We need volunteers, who will not mind working on multiple tasks including visiting places to hang boards, Teach and play with kids how to recycle and save, set up collection bins gather the collected recyclable materials and deliver to our site (thus an international driving license would be a benefit!) separate and pre-process the goods (plastics, PET, Metal etc!), bale and make ready for shipment. We also planned Yoga, Taichi, Meditation, so volunteers who have experience in these fields are also welcome, (We have Yoga and Meditation Trainers but more are also welcome) We plan also to make language exchange, as I am learning now Russian and Anya is my Master and she is going to be on the camp full time as well, and I may teach Turkish, German and English, if wanted! About music, I started Ney (Turkish Reed Flute) lessons, and anyone playing any instrument is also welcome, the Project President, Utku Atalay, is himself a Guitar Master! So if you like to learn or improve your guitar, bring it along! The conditions are very simple, Healthy, none hindered volunteers, who will travel to our site on there own and willing to spend couple of month (depends on the conditions but we think we like to keep hard working friends as long as possible)
Area: Kampong ChamOBT is registered as a local NGO, accredited by the Cambodian Ministry of Interior since July 2, 2009. We provide free-of-charge English classes to the Chiro village children to give them the chance to go on to higher education (university or hospitality school) and to improve their employment prospects. Most of the children who attend OBT come from farmer families with an income of less than 25 dollars a month. This is less than a dollar a day for the whole family. Giving a child the gift of being able to speak English will enable them to get a well-paid job in the rising Cambodian tourist industry and feed a family of up to ten people. It will also stop most children from finding illegal work in Thailand or working cheap manual labour from an early age. The aim of OBT is to contribute to the country’s development at a community level, to reduce poverty in Cambodia, and to assist in building the nation’s skills base. OUR PROGRAM: - English, traditional khmer music & dance courses based on a daily program in addition to the state school. - Over 200 students aged between 6 and 25 year old. - Local English teachers. One full-time and several part-time teachers. An important aim of OBT is to involve people from the community by employing local, dedicated and motivated people who want to share their English knowledge. The best teenager students have the chance to become well-paid teachers for OBT. - Foreign volunteers.
