Area: Valencian CommunityBeautiful 2 hectare finca in Spain 90km S of Valencia city in the valley of Orba near by the sea (9Km) and byside the rio Girona. Area dominated by Bambus and Orange trees. We are a german married couple - 49 and 56 years old. We are very open-minded, tolerant and respectful of people of different races, religions, cultures, sexual orientation, etc. we can speak to helpers in either English, Spanish or german - it is up to them. We have 2 dogs and 4 cats and we don't smoke - so we prefer nonsmokers. Every couple (or 2 persons) have your own bedroom/bathroom. We have Internet - so helpers can check their email once a day. In Ondara is also a big shopping center with wifi. We would require a minimum stay of 2 weeks (a longer stay is possible), and we expect 5 hours work per day. We have many things that need to be done in the garden, orchard, bambus forest, new house, workshop, etc. There is no lack of work nor of variety of work, from the simple to the complicated and from the brawny to the brainy. We are very flexible with work schedules and work chores to be done. The spanish bus company "ALSA" has national buses which goes from all big towns to Ondara (Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante...)We will pick you up by car in Ondara on first arrival. The two nearest towns (Beniarbeig and Sanet y Negral)are each about a 10 minute bicycle ride away; we have two mountain bikes that helpers can use to bike through the countryside. Beniarbeig has also a big community Pool and a bus goes also to Denia city it takes 1/2 hours. -------------------------------------------------- A little about our projects: We try to minimize water and to reuse and recycle as much waste as possible onsite; the rest is put in recycling containers in town. We have extensive knowledge and experience in the design and contruction of houses and buildings and personally designed and built absolutely everything (house, buildings, electrical and water systems, etc.) on the finca with own hands from top to bottom (often with some manual help and advice from family and friends) -------------------------------------------------- Below are some photos and more can be sent when you contact us.Thanks in advance for getting in touch to show any possible interest.
Area: Northwest Territories - YellowknifeOur multi-award winning lodge is a family run, environmentally conscious tourist, educational and conference facility. In the heart of Canada’s northern wilderness, it is 100km from the nearest town (Yellowknife) and an amazing setting to appreciate the aurora borealis (northern lights) in winter, as well as the midnight sun in summer. It was the only wilderness location visited by the British royal couple, Prince William and Kate, on their inaugural overseas tour in 2011. First open in 1981, we have hosted guests from all over the world and our volunteers to date have come from Australia, Austria, Sweden, Hong Kong, Malta, New Zealand, Japan, Poland, the UK, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Korea, Taiwan, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, China, Chile and the USA, as well as Canada. Since 2010 we have been proud to host Dechinta Bush University Centre for Research and Learning. This is a northern-led initiative delivering land-based, university accredited education led by northern leaders, experts, aboriginal elders and professors. All volunteers must bring their own sleeping bag and a bear spray (Spring Summer and Fall), which can be bought in Yellowknife
Area: Languedoc RoussillonThe place It is a beautiful spot with gorgeous views and walks. We have been renovating a stunning Renaissance chateau in the French Pyrenees since 1997. We have lots of interesting building, planting and gardening work for the whole Autumn of 2014. We are building with natural lime and stone, planting herbs and improving pathways in our garden with spectacular views. The Autumn weather is typically gorgeous and the house comfortably accommodates 6 people. It is sunny and airy and has a well equipped kitchen and good WIFI and ADSL. The area is interesting historically and for its natural beauty. Volunteers over 15 years have helped with the herb garden, building, landscaping, renovation and also generally helping with the running of things. We very much appreciate their work and their company. We take approximately half the meals together and volunteers have their own space nearby to give them some space to hang out and us some family time. We have a young son. The work The project in 2014 is principally building a stone wall (using local sand stone) and traditional lime building techniques. There will be some more detailed renovation work on a cut stone feature of the chateau that we will work on if we can (consolidating the North East tower) It is a really beautiful spot and the group last year really did enjoy the work. We are also interested in a long term stone lover and a long term general helper outer over the Autumn and winter of 2014/2015 The Accommodation The accommodation is a sunny comfortable house with WIFI right next to the Chateau. There are four bedrooms in the house. The kitchen is shared and strictly kept tidy and clean. There are lots of good places to sit out doors. What you will need Alll equipment apart from hats, gloves and boots is provided. Volunteers last year were taught and shown examples of the previous walls built, photographs, diagrams and meeting with other participants. We also have a friendly engineer who keeps an eye on things.
