Who we are
This is David.
Originally from England, but now lives in Southern Spain.
He set up Workaway.info after meeting so many nice travellers and backpackers who were looking for a bit more than just the hostel experience, and so would offer them a place to stay in return for a bit of help around his house and land.
He first came across the concept of volunteering whilst travelling in Hawaii in the early 90s. Managing to extend a one week stay to a two month one by helping out in a hostel on the North shore.
Using the help of volunteers he built these cabins. Which he now rents out in the summer or volunteers can stay here for free!
His aim is to help travellers be able to integrate more easily in whatever country they’re travelling in whilst having the opportunity to give something back to the local community.
When not working on the website he spends his time, travelling, windsurfing and with his two kids.
This is Simone.
Born in Germany, she´s lived in Spain now for many years.
Always having a passion for travelling, during her 6 years as a student she travelled throughout Europe, and later spent a couple of years travelling around Asia.
.
“My experiences whilst travelling opened my eyes to the world and my life now wouldn’t be nearly as fulfilled without having had all these great travelling experiences”.
She settled down in Andalucia 12 years ago, after deciding that it was the place she wanted her kids to grow up .
Initially spending her time building her house which has 3 apartments next to the beach.
“ Joining the Workaway is exactly the kind of project I wanted to become involved with. Helping people to travel around the world without spending a fortune.”
"I´ve now had many workawayers passing through. It´s such a nice experience and it helps me in my daily life. Each Workawayer brings its own special skills. I‘ve had gardeners, artists as well as child carers who take my kids to the beach enabling me to get on with some work!"
She‘s developing the German part of the Website and hopes that this project will develop in Germany as much as in other parts of the world.
