Area: South AustraliaWes and Laurel bought the historic mansion back in 2001, and decided the best way to restore it was to live in it. They moved their family of four children into the home and have been working on it very slowly ever since. The home itself is a heritage building, built between 1851 and 1862 ( South Australia was founded in 1836). As a result, work on the mansion follows traditional methods. Learning these lost skills is part of the fun in its restoration. The original estate was 300 acres with 14 acres of formal garden. In the 21st century the estate has been reduced to 12 Acres, but the garden is badly overgrown and in need of some tender loving care. The challenge is to create a traditional formal garden in an Australian Climate There is also an old coach house, stable and mounting yards and the remains of a 19th century heated swimming pool and out houses ( all needing restoration) Wes is a computer guy who loves to play field hockey. He has an interest in all things historic and enjoys the challenge of restoring the house. Laurel is a retired ballet teacher, who has recently taken up Archery and spends her spare time studying and raising awareness about disability. Laurel has interest in historical house keeping, preferring eco cleaning methods which follow the style and period of the house. She has even been known to bake on the old wood stoves in the kitchen. Wes and Laurel are excited about the positive impact having international travellers staying in their home will have on their children (ages 8-16 years), and they look forward to sharing ideas on the restoration of the property.
Area: Limousinhello English friends told me this summer "sign up Workaway also because in France, there are only English-speaking hosts" ... I do not know if that's true, but for me, I'm French, speak French and get people who want to speak French! ;) A virus attacked my optic nerve this summer and I quickly tired. I can not discuss or explain the work in English (in real life, I do not have an automatic translator in my pocket) I can receive so that people who already speak French (not necessarily perfect ;) My home is lost in the wilderness (Road cul-de-sac, no lights of the city, virtually no artificial noise, just the forest, trails, a pond, a stream, waterfalls and a large piece of heaven ). I moved in there two and a half years and I restore the buildings to a house devoted to nature, hiking, rest and recharge. I have a small organic vegetable garden. My pastures are leased for horses of my neighbors (neighbors who often receive wwoofers). We are only three houses in our small valley with a good atmosphere. The flora and fauna are rich and varied because we do not use pesticides or fertilizers. I live alone, but I very often friends who come with their families to spend several days at home. I am illustrator and artist (drawing, watercolour and digital painting). I play a little guitar, I'm a fan of Tolkien, a follower of bushcraft and I was scout (I get scout camps in the summer). I traveled a lot as backpacker. Especially in the Nordic countries (Alaska, NWT, Yukon, Norway, Finland, Siberia and Mongolia). Before my move, I was in another polar guide for a small French agency (snowshoes, Nordic winter in Finland and canoeing in summer and autumn in the Yukon).
Area: Pristina city centerWe are a hostel in Pristina. The hostel has four dorm rooms and a total of 26 beds plus camping spots available. The hostel is owned by a Texan and an Albanian - both very passionate about Kosovo!!!
Area: Valencian CommunityHola, we are Trixie and Allan Taylor. Just now we need help preparing for guests involving decorating and soft furnishings and gardening/conservation work. Also our dream is to renovate our under build to make a 'Green Tariff' Backpackers / Cyclist Hostel in the La Safor mountains, Valencia, just 30 mins from great blue flag surfing beaches on the Costa del Azahar, Spain and we want to build an outdoor kitchen. This autumn and winter we are offering AirBnB and winter sun adventure holidays for all abilities and yoga retreats and painting tuition and wine tasting weekends.. Our place is wheelchair friendly and now we are also open as a hostel for backpackers and cyclists (Eco rates/tariffs) We are on the Via Verdi route in El Raco Del Duc, Sierra La Safor Valencia. Sports Climbing and mountain biking are on offer and a vast complex of caves containing Neolithic paintings and artefacts have also recently been discovered nearby. Our house is named after 'the Window', the huge hole at the top of Mt La Safor, one and a half hrs from Valencia and Alicante airports. We're on the disused railway from the port of Gandia (vibrant city, medieval markets, theatre, cinema, concerts, great restaurants and bars, shopping center, train station... half an hour away from us), to Alcoy... a 13km walk of unsurpassed, limestone crags, Moorish terraces, punctuated by five exciting tunnels hugging the Rio Serpis gorge to Lorcha We're in the Cirque de La Safor... a huge crater said to be an 'energy door' like 'Machu Piccu' We can take people to help us in winter or to house/ dog sit in summer. There is a studio flat. It has a separate entrance, courtyard with trees and terraced organic gardens with fruit trees down to the river...great for wild swimming on summer. Occasionally, in the winter, Trixie likes to visit family and go back to UK leaving Allan, two dogs, three cats, a rabbit and a wood-burning stove... to fend for themselves in this beautiful place. Then she needs someone a 'stand-in' for her. We believe in contributionism and you will be joining a community with other workawayers when you come here. Allan is also getting less able and it would be great to know we will be supported all winter by a great team of Workawayers. We want to renovate our under build to make a 'refugio' for walkers, cyclists and of course pilgrims. Any volunteers gratefully welcome. We also need to make an irrigation system for the garden. We all share the work of the household and cooking though Trixie can teach you, also the general housework and garden maintenance and lots of paella parties and great walks in the mountains and swims in the pool and river. There will be conservation work keeping paths open on the river bank. We are preparing a place for groups to meditate there. Our house is eco-friendly (solar panels) and our organic terraces and trees could also do with a supporter! In winter you would be upstairs, with us, in the main house (four bedrooms, two bathrooms and two wood stoves. Allan had a heart transplant 28 yrs ago and was a teacher and loved climbing, running, cycling, swimming, sailing and kayaking, theater and, after the transplant, worked as a volunteer with the less able in all of these. He's still a champion swimmer (in the Transplant Games) but he's now in need of support and companionship. Trixie ran a vegetarian whole-food restaurant and has worked with adults with learning and physical disabilities. She taught in a Steiner/Waldorf school. She sings, writes, draws, spins wool, knits (Fair Isle and Arran) and sews. She'd like to share skills and loves cooking, baking and making bread, walking, swimming in the river, meditation and yoga. Come and visit to see if you'd like to spend time with our remarkable community. Bienvenido to our wild river gorge and our home.
Area: LimousinHello ! Namasté : I praise the god within you ! Would you like to come and enjoy a most extraordinary landscape. Endless peaceful views; green hills and valleys, lakes and untouched forests, a paradise for wild life. Four hectares of Permaculture gardens, orchards, forest gardens, over 800 different species of fruit trees. A huge tree nursery and a family pottery work shop creating beautiful strong stoneware with blue glaze. For now three cats and lots of bees and other amazing insects... I've built a few ecologicle houses, the stone house is not yet finished, and will be your home during your stay, there is also a yurte and a comfy house nearby (with warm water). And the cord wood house that is my workshop and office space. A little about me: I'm a kind, generous and sensitive person, but also very very busy with the tree nursery. I'm vegetarian and almost a raw food eater, but prefer not to share meals due to sever health problems from birth that I forget I have when I don't eat with others and don't have to talk about! So meals are like a meditation time and space for me. We can share other times, but just a few hours per day according to how the activities get on. I like to share time aound the pottery creation, or whilst weeding we can share some songs from around the earth, could be happy to share some yoga practising, I can teach kundalini yoga but only in the periods where I'm not allready other whealmed with the work in the tree nursery. Less busy times are : January, june, july, august, septembre), playing music together (I used to play flute), or sharing any other healthy tresures (I have a lots of adventure stories to share !:) but I do need quite a bit of help because the tree nursery project is a great mission that is a priority in my life now, saving old fruit varieties. I can welcome hardy, joyful and self-sufficient volunteers (sorry I'm allergic to smoke and the baby fruit trees can't have dogs). You can help in many different activities; eco building, tree nurseries/permaculture gardens and pottery, according to the weather, season and moon calendar... Right now I'm looking for some help for digging out trees to sell, the dates where you could come is from the 10th to 19th november. Have a great time ! And maybe see you soon ! A few details about other periods : December, january and beggining of febuary, when it's sunny : planting trees, when it's cold : in the pottery or tidiing up barn and green houses... Febuary to end of april : grafting and planting trees April and may : sowing vegetables, flowers... May to September : lots of weeding, pruning, swims in the lakes... land ots fo fruit to pick : (red and black currants, blue berries, then black berries, plums, honney, cherries...) October : collecting apples, rasberies, delicious wild peaches, some years apple juice making, puting lables on plants... November : digging out tree to sell, very busy for me, very happy to have dynamic help on the festivals and markets (about 15 per years)
