We are a local Costa Rican family living on a small organic farm. We are in the process of creating a sustainable living situation by utilizing permaculture techniques, protecting the forest that surrounds us, and participating in our local economy. Our farm is located in the small town of Mastatal, in the shadow of El Cangreja National Park. We believe the forest is an important natural resource, and we have an obligation to protect it. We also encourage volunteers to take trips into the park and take the short walk to the waterfall in our backyard. We offer three meals a day of the best Costa Rican food and comfortable sleeping accommodation. The lifestyle is very laid back, we work for 4 to 5 hours in the morning and have afternoons to yourself. We also have a washing machine that is available for free. Projects on the farm include: Natural Building Planting Trees Maintaining and Harvesting Crops Maintaining the Medicinal Garden and Taking Care of the Animals Our farm is 23 hectares and we produce organic crops. We have 2 horses 2dogs 2 pig , chicken, goose, turkey and several cows. We make our own home-made cheese from cow's milk and We are a new farm and right now, are focusing on building more organic crops, specifically fresh vegetables like platano, banana, yuca, pineapple other locally grown vegetables. There are volunteer opportunities for construction projects, gardening, and working with medicinal plants here on our farm as well. Nearby activities can include tours of river tours, national park visiting.

Region: Colorado/ New Mexico

We are just expanding our organic gardening farm on our working horse ranch. moved from a 320 acre organic farm.We are immediately building 3 cabins. one pumice volcanic rock cabin, one local wood cabin from mountains and local saw mill. cabins already in progress for guest houses who come to learn riding and horse training as well as sustainable agriculture totally off grid. solar water well, solar power, up at 7600 feet close to ski areas but in a valley where we grow cold weather crops. BUILDING A GREEN HOUSE for winter and long season vegetables starts We heat with wood and solar. Singles housing only so far. Its on 100 acres building site and 32000 acre grazing for horses to ride on. its a close walk to the Rio Grande river and one of the largest free standing mountains in north America, a native holy mountain. large elk herd, deer antelope. we have large horse herd of free ranging horses with breeding stock we have raised for 107 years.

Region: British Columbia

We are a ranch (some say a funny farm) in the Cariboo region of British Columbia, Canada. We live on 200 acres on a lake and are surrounded on all sides by government owned forests. We are 1hr flight or 6hrs drive north of Vancouver. We raise all natural, free-ranged cows, pigs and goats. We also have chickens, ducks, turkeys, llamas, horses and 4 livestock dogs. This year we will be expanding our garden and preserving as well. We are a younger couple, happily married with 3 well mannered, fun loving, active boys 9 yrs and 3 yr old twins. We are travelers ourselves and home school our kids so we are always looking to both provide and accept opportunities for life experience and cultural diversity. Workaways are welcome year round for short or long term stays. We have had wonderful experiences with local and international visitors and would like to expand that part of our lives. Here on the ranch there are always things to help out with and learn from building and maintaining outbuildings and fences to tending to animals, helping with children's activities and cooking and food harvest and preservation. Our focus is on providing an opportunity for someone to learn our way of life and for us to learn from you so individuals of all skill types are welcome.

Our place is a 10 acre mixed farm near the Edmonton International Airport. We believe in a sustainable approach to farming and maximize nutrient use from fowl to gardens. It is important to us to produce health conscious products for ourselves and our consumers, all our products are low in saturated fats and free of common allergens. We naturally produce odd, unusual, heritage & healthy products to add color, flavor and texture to plating. Our product line includes every possible type of vegetable we can grow, potatoes, duck eggs, duck, geese, game hens, turkeys and guinea fowl. We do not accept status quo in anything we do but strive for better and different: -carrots are not orange and our beets are not red -potatoes are heritage varieties that have color, flavor and texture without butter and sour cream -meat ducks are hybrid to ensure equal sizing of legs and breast and an even distribution of fat all around -eggs are duck eggs, with an alkaline base no known allergies, no digestive problems and a creamy yolk and thick egg whites they are superior for everything. They are the preferred baking eggs for many European pastry chefs. We have a full line of processed products with our ducks and turkeys that are fat, filler and additive free. We service fine restaurants in Edmonton, Winfield, Calmar, Jasper ,Banff& Calgary that share the same beliefs. We also attend the City Center Market in Edmonton and are represented in a new concept Sobeys - Urban Fresh store. We are strong advocates of local food, and are members of Slow Food, Greater Edmonton Alliance, Alberta Farmers Market Association, Edmonton City Market, Alberta Farm Fresh Producers Association, Alberta Food Processors Association, Alberta Coalition for Culinary Tourism and Dine Alberta We are busy year round as we continue marketing root vegetables, potatoes, duck eggs, fowl and our signature product Mixed Heritage Greens that we grow in our 3000 square foot greenhouse. Please plan to stay for at least 2 weeks, we prefer longer stays. Region: Central Ohio

The farm is comprised of 20 acres with a large organic vegetable garden. About 10 acres are reserved for hay making to feed the dairy goats, llamas, horses and rabbits. The farms has ducks and chickens also. The farm is involved with agritourism and offer classes on the farm. One house on the farm is used as a Bed & Breakfast and for classes. Ongoing work to save the endangered Butternut tree from extinction is a major project. The farm has about 50 butternut trees on it. The farm setting is a rural location, about 15 miles from the nearest town. There is no mass transit system. Cell Phone access can be limited during a storm but most do not have any problems.
