We are in urgent need of a help in our cultural center from October 2012 to 2013 March. Please contact us if you are willing to help us. Read on to know more about us.
Sarang is a center for learning sustainable lifestyle.
Our family is a growing alternative school. We have 7 children living & learning with us, from age 10 to 18 years. We follow sustainable living practices.
At present we have two centers. The main campus on a hilltop is a living textbook for environmental re-generation, soil regeneration and natural farming.
The other center is in a village 80 kilometers away from the main campus. It is a cultural exchange center where people come from all over the world to learn different Indian art forms, cuisines, languages and Yoga. Students of the Sarang alternative school also learn different art forms in this Center.
We need help in both the places.
On the hills we need help on our farm during October to February and June to August. The work consists of making a fence, mulching, planting and harvesting. If you are interested, you can also keep vigil at the night against wild boars! We are also in the process of making some buildings towards our goal of a rural university from whatever small savings we manage. So at times we have construction work happening with bamboo, pressed mud blocks and wood.
In the cultural center we need assistance in daily maintenance (sweeping the house, cleaning the rooms and toilets), gardening, welcoming the travelers at the airport, etc. We also have a collection of around 1000 books which need to be sorted and catalogued. The empty walls of the cultural center also need to be filled with paintings, photos and other informative things related to Indian culture, art forms and life style. If you are good with teaching English then you can also help our students with their English.
We are a small school in the Indian Himalayas. We have 70 children between the ages of 3 and 11. Our director Philipp (he is also the only English speaking teacher, we have threelocal women helping!) is a German American educator, who grew up in India.
We need volunteers who can speak English and enjoy the mountains and working with children. We can provide room for upto two people at a time. Simple food can be purchased locally from the villagers themselves.
Volunteers should plan for a minimum commitment of at least 3 weeks to a month with us to achieve results with the kids.
Located at 30 km from Jaisalmer in the Thar desert, our camp is quiet and peaceful, the stars are sparkling in the night!
The camp is managed and run by locals from Damodra Village. We love sharing our culture and traditions with our guests and volunteers.
While most of us speak English fairly well, we need help with written English. Our volunteers can help with answering our emails and dealing with calls from potential guests. For volunteers who would like to put in some physical work, you can always help with our general camp maintenance (dishes, cleaning, garbage recycling…). For those who are interested in learning other skills, such as cooking Rajasthani food, we can arrange for that as well!
We have some local musicians that perform in the evenings, if you are a musician yourself, they would be more than happy to share their knowledge with you. Perhaps they can teach you to play our traditional Indian instruments.
For a few hours of work a day, we can provide accommodation in our Swiss tents and 3 meals a day, but beyond this, live and work daily with us can give you another view of Rajasthan.
