    Description

We have a little organic farm with Finnish sheep and some horses and ponies for trekking. Also a few Finnish original cows just for fun, not forgetting our dogs, cats, chicken and three funny ducks. We accomodate travellers in the other end of the house during summer season. We have a big garden and also grow some garlek. We sell meat and wool products and some crafts straight from the farm. We do some social farming/farm rehabilitation. Few people come weekly to "farm therapy" joining the work and farmlife. Also we are a support family for some children during the weekends. Green Care /Social farming, Organic farming ans sustainability is our point of wiew and we hope that anyone who visits or spends time at the farm, would enjoy the atmosphere with nature and animals.

We love our farm and have lot’s of ideas, plans and projects – and a lot to do. I, Johanna, am working full time at the farm. I am occupied with quite a lot of paper work, organizing, training horses and doing some crafts for sale. My husband Kyösti needs to be away during the weeks with his own business but he helps with building projects and maintenance during weekends and holidays. My father comes to help at the farm on frequent basis with machine work etc.

We would like to welcome volunteers to share this all with us and take part in daily chores and projects. We enjoy international guests and share life together!:) Volunteers take care of the farm daily routines with animal care and maintenance. Besides they may choose jobs according to their abilities and interests as long as they are ready work independently, get their hands dirty and work outside despite sometimes bad weather. Depending on the time of the year there is gardenwork, fencing, animal care, building, machine work, forest work, cleaning the animal sheds and at the house etc. Experience with horses is good but not compulsory. Every day will be different!

At the moment we take 1-2 volunteers at the time, singles, couples or friends are all welcome to share farm life with us. We prefere long time workawayers, 3 weeks minimun, prefererably 2 months. Work time is about 5hours a day 5 days a week + some of the normal house chores (cooking/cleaning/general maintenance). Sometimes farmwork requires more full working days and then you may take more free time on more quiet days. Free days are usually Sunday and Monday. For us this farmlife is a way of living so it is not really easy to say what is work and what is "free time", you might end up experiencing the same!

The day programme: Work day begins at 9. We enjoy lunch&coffee together at 12 and that is the main meal of the day. After lunch break we continue with the chores for few hours afternoon/evening. In the evenings you may use the kithcen for snacks, leftovers or make a meal of you preference.

The travellers will enjoy Finnish countryside, friendly lovely animals and hopefully learn new skills and Finnish way of life. If they can ride, they can use our horses. Our farm is by a little lake where you can swim and go rowing. In wintertime you can go kick slegding of cross country skiing right from the house and swim in the ice hole. The country roads are nice for walking and jogging. In autumn the forests have berries and mushrooms. You will find that you will not want to leave the farm but you can always take bus to the nearest city Jyväskylä if you need to see some more people. We are sure you will enjoy the Finnish Sauna twice a week.

Summertime and Autumn: making and fixing fences, checking on animals, gardenwork, cutting lawn, forest work, picking berries, caring for horses hooves and tack, helping with weighing, shearing, moving sheep, cleaning the appartement for tourists, helping with building projects.

Wintertime: feeding sheep and horses, making fire in the fireplaces, cleaning the barn, housework, forest work, preparing things for the farmshop and creating new ideas, decorating, caring for horse tack, giving horses some exercise&training.

Springtime: Supervizing and helping with the lambing season. In March and beginning of April be prepared that sometimes we work at night if the sheep need help - and this season we don't count working hours! These months are the toughest but also most rewarding and fun. May: fence making and maintenance as we take the animals to the fields from inside. Gardenwork.

You are always welcome to do cooking! And cleaning...=D.
