Region: Dordogne/AquitaineA BIG thank you to all the volunteers who stayed with us in 2013. Please read our feedback to get an unbiased view of how varied the work is. Strong, fit and healthy volunteers, for building work, wall building, gardening etc. No experience necessary bu common sense however is essential. Also, joiners, carpenters, roofers and tilers required from AUGUST 2014. Our main building project is reaching the stage where we will be needing to construct and add the roof to our barn conversion next Spring. Please make sure you read our profile in full before applying. A minimum of two weeks stays but you are welcome to stay longer. We are an Anglo Franco family (English is spoken most of the time) living in an isolated, large rambling house in the middle of the stunning Dordogne countryside in South West France for the past twenty one years. Our building projects are now at a stage where we are looking for experienced builders and or competent DIYers and volunteers who wish to learn new skills, to help with a number of building projects. We have walnut, apple, pear, cherry, hazelnut and plum trees. We have about 10,000 sq. metres of land. Our daughter and her French husband and their two daughters live nearby. Our middle son and his French Fiancé and their new baby boy are renovating a town house near by and our youngest son is studying at Bordeaux University and comes home most weekends with his French girlfriend. Our eldest children are frequent visitors to the house for dinner and the odd cup of tea. Our part of the Dordogne is spectacularly beautiful. Wild boar, deer and wildlife are abundant and Buzzards and Black Kite are to be seen circling on the air currents on a daily basis. There are rivers and lakes to swim in, as well as canoeing and two great swimming pools about 30 minutes away. Rock climbing, walking, horse riding at local stables, picnics and caves (about 2 hours away) to explore as well as historic towns to visit. There are local markets as well as historic town centres and buildings to interest everyone. During the summer months there are music concerts everywhere and we help organise La Fete de la Musique in our Village at the end of June. It would be fantastic if volunteers that stay with us in June can play and perform there. There are also lots of village fetes and lots of local things to do. We live in the middle of the countryside, miles from anywhere with no public transport , but we will try to ensure you get the chance to visit some local attractions and do fun things locally on your non working time. Better if you have your own transport as we are working people and bound by our shop hours. People with their own transport would be particularly well suited as we are out in the country and we can not always promise to take you on exploration trips. There are usually other Workawayers here or in the immediate vicinity We have had several volunteers here at a time and have had some wonderful times together. The work can be hard but the atmosphere is terrific and most people have really loved being here. Please note: We provide three main meals per day (we are meat eaters )and plenty of it. No one leaves the table hungry. We do not provide wine or beer as a staple and we cannot cater for anyone with special dietary needs. We also have cats and dogs and can't take people with any allergies , including hay fever, this is a very rural area and hay fever sufferers will be very uncomfortable . Nor can we cope with other health issues.

Region: Lower SilesiaWe are Konstancja and Frank, and we moved here a few years ago from different cities. At the moment we are working on rebuilding an old warehouse (mainly from recycled materials) into a modern place for people to live. We are very much influenced by work of Michael Reynolds and his earthships. We are setting up our walls with car tyres and beer cans. We would like to create a self-sufficient place by re-using the waste of modern consumer society, in the beautiful scenery of the Jizera Mountains. Konstancja is also engaged in handicraft. She is working with natural fabrics, from silk, linen to felt, as well as silk-screen printing, weaves, dyes and paints. Frank is working with scrap metal as well as wood, stone, concrete etc. We started working on this place only seven months ago, so our organic garden is in poor shape, but we would like to develop this. Just few month ago we started on weekends a party place with music and food so IF YOU ARE A DJ AND PLAY MUSIC - YOU ARE WELCOME ! We are also involved in the local association Unia Izerska, and our project now is to build a bike path through the woods to the Czech Republic which is only 1800m away.
