    Description

Our farm has been a huge part of our lives for many years but we have now left that chapter behind. We recently moved to Belmont in Geelong and just absolutely love living there. Having hosted workawayers on our farm we would now like to try hosting in our new home to get help with our many garden projects.

We have a spacious, light filled home in a friendly neighborhood. There is a separate wing with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom where workawayers can be comfortable and make themselves at home.

Our projects include planning and planting our front and side gardens. Weeding and soil improvement, turning over the earth, digging in compost then spreading mulch. Building a couple of trellis fences for espaliered fruit trees and flowering vines. Setting up garden edges. Creating an outdoor fishpond. Erecting a greenhouse kit with paved flooring,. Pruning fruit trees. Caring for 6 raised vegie garden beds. Mowing and edging the street side nature strip, and more.

GEELONG: Nothing in Geelong is very far away. The shopping strip is just 200 metres from home, with public transport right there going in all directions, including a bus that travels the Great Ocean Road to Apollo Bay. The shopping strip has supermarkets, restaurants and cafes, a public library, a bank, healthcare, and everything else you might want within short walking distance.

The waterfront is 10 minutes away with protected swimming area, diving boards, kids pool, grassy picnic areas and a kiosk. A miniature train travels 500 metres around the waterfront to the CBD. There is also a passenger ferry to Southbank in Melbourne.

The beautiful botanical gardens are next to the waterfront and one of our favourite places in Geelong to stroll and enjoy a coffee. The gardens are surrounded by huge parklands, and bike tracks.

There is a vibrant nightlife precinct with live music venues, dingy speakeasy bars, street dining, and lots of young people. The National Wool Museum is an interesting place to visit and the Art Gallery is an enjoyable space too. There is a busy calendar of community events, performances and many other things to do.

The Geelong AFL football stadium is walking distance from our home for visitors wanting to go to the game.

The Bellarine peninsula is 30 minutes away with surf beaches, wineries, and coastal villages. There is a car ferry from Queenscliff across the heads to Sorrento on the Mornington peninsula.

And for people travelling further afield there is the Spirit of Tasmania ferry across Bass Strait to Tasmania.

We love living in Geelong and would be delighted to share this with interesting and willing workawayers. The ideal length of stay is probably 3 to 5 days enroute to your next destination.

There's plenty to do and your help would be appreciated.

Geelong is a surprise package of activities, people and places. It is Victoria's second largest city with ~500k people, but it's like a big country town with a slower pace and nothing far away. People are likely to come away with a sense of well being and enjoyment from visiting Geelong.

A sliding door from the family room goes to a separate wing of two bedrooms, a study and a bathroom. The hosts have a bedroom and bathroom at the front of the house. The very spacious family, kitchen and dining area is a shared area. The kitchen is well equipped and the pantry and fridge are stocked with food for breakfast lunch and dinner. Breakfast is help yourself, with a casual lunch, and probably a shared evening meal depending on your schedule. The family room has a fireplace, and TV with chromecast and apple play adapter. Outside the family room is paving, an alfresco area, and bbq.

Helpers can explore the hidden waterfall, fern gullies, natural bush, and hillside landscape with spectacular views. Other options are walking along the beach, relaxing on the deck overlooking the ocean, and listening to the waves. Apollo Bay township has two very good pubs (hotels) usually with live music, a weekend market, a shopping strip, a fishing harbour, a public golf course, a few churches, and beautiful sandy beaches. It's about 8 kms into town so if you don't have a car the hosts are happy to drive you in and collect you when you're ready to come home. The Otway Ranges and Great Ocean Road is a beautiful part of South West Victoria.
