Area: QueenslandIf you love wildlife, the outdoors, great views and good food, send us an email. No smokers or vegetarians thank you. Check out our site at ironbarkgrange.com.au and the blog on this site which has a few videos of what we are about. Please note: WE DO NOT TAKE SMOKERS OR VEGETARIANS. The property is located 60km South of Brisbane and 20km West of the Gold Coast on the upper North slope of Mt Tamborine, 320m above sea level. We are surrounded by National Parks and abundant wildlife. The property is 8.35Ha with a sub-tropical climate and has great country views to the North up to 120km on a clear day. We also have a tennis court, an outdoor cobb pizza oven, chooks/geese, two dalmatian dogs, a vegetable garden and about 300 fruit trees. Work outside is a major part of what we do so expect to be outside on a rural property as part of the experience. The design of the property has been along Permaculture principles. This includes rainwater collection, composting waste disposal, integration of animals and gardens, integrated pest management and the use of limited chemicals is done in a sustainable manner. The house is designed and built by ourselves. It is large and modern and has been constructed using high mass walls and floors, good insulation in the roof, walls and double glazing throughout. Careful attention has been paid to window shading to minimise solar gain in summer and allow some heating in Winter. We transport our helpers on their day off to Tamborine mountain (a major tourist attraction) or the nearest transport centre so that they can expore the area. Wireless and hard wire internet is made available to all our helpers. We pick up our helpers from the Beenleigh Bus Transit Centre, under the big roof of the centre. This is in Beenleigh, approximately 25km South of Brisbane and is next to the Beenleigh Train station. We love lamb roasts, cuisine from different lands and good wine. Come and share the experience with us.
Area:We are a family of five, a father, mother and three boys. Sissi, the father of the house, is an independant contractor. Agnes is an office manager at a catering company. Hordur is an 18 year old student who lives with us every other week. Jovin is a 4 year old boy with an interest in his toys and playing outside and Joakim is a sweet toddler of 18 months with his toddler interests. We try to eat as healthy as possible but we are no fanatics, we enjoy occasional steak now and then. Sissi is a keen hockey fan who playes with the local team in Akureyri. Agnes loves to do handicraft of all kind and knitting is one of her favorit hobbies. Both of us play a little bit on various instruments and love good music. Two years ago we bought an old house in great need of some TLC. We have been renovating the house gradually on the inside and this summer we plan on working on the house on the outside. We plan on doing some landscaping in the garden and painting the house. We live in the North of Iceland, in a small town called Akureyri with 17.000 residents. We are very close to the town center with the swimming pool, main shopping street, library, museums, botanical garden and the duck pond in just a 5 minutes walk away. We are 5 minutes away from the main bus station and all buses are free in Akureyri for those who want to take a quick tour around town. Akureyri is only an hour drive from Myvatn wich is one of the most beautiful places to see in all of Iceland. It's lava fromations, lakes and crates is something everyone traveling to Iceland must see.
Area: WalesNew exciting project, former intensive, run down dairy farm, now in conversion to a 28 acre, organic, family run small farm. We have started a large veg patch, polytunnel, an orchard and will be planting a woodland. We have some small cows, goats, chickens, ducks, pigs, sheep, rabbits and dogs. Our aim is to be self sufficient for meat, veg, fruit and fuel. We are renovating the traditional stone built farmhouse and barns. Situated in a beautiful, quiet, rural location with great walking, short drive from town/coast. Please note that public transport is limited and infrequent. We home educate our 4 children and are looking for enthusiatic, energetic, polite helpers to come and join in with our 'good life'. We are a busy family, we work extremely hard get up early and go to bed early, but we like to have fun too - camp fire cooking, singing and playing card or word games, and watching films are our style.
Area: Durban,Kwa-Mashu,UmgababaMy grandmother Mirriam Cele initiated the Organisation along with a group of volunteer women. Mirriam spent 17 years as a community and development worker and was employed by the Diakonia Council of Churches in that capacity. She is the recipient of many accolades, amongst them, the Martin Luther King Peace Award the Paul Harris Award (by the Rotary Club), the eThekwini Mayor's Awards in 1999 and the 2004 Fair Lady Claims Eau Dynamisante Woman of the Year Award recognition. Our name is the Zulu term for “stay a while, rest a while or halfway house.” This name was chosen as a result of the visionary, Mirriam Cele, receiving calls from people in the community telling her of children, some as young as 6 months being abandoned due to poverty or more tragically, as a result of parents having died of AIDS. Mirriam would collect these children and then hold them while she traced their next-of-kin, which often proved to be a futile exercise. Our model ensures that each child is placed with the willing childminder for the night and attends the care centre during the day. This allows the caregivers to assess the well-being of each child on a continual basis, especially those who are infected with HIV.Each foster granny receives a food parcel for the child in consideration of the shelter provided at night.
