Région: Salmon Arm, British ColumbiaWe are looking for people who are motivated & positive, with a good sense of humour, and who enjoys out door work to help us with maintenance and improvements for our equestrian facility. Things we need help with include general outdoor work to help keep the property maintained and improving (gardening, lawn mowing, landscaping, watering plants, etc). We often have various construction projects on the go (some minor and some major) as there are always things that need to be built, repaired or painted. All food and accommodation is provided (includes access to wifi, TV, etc.), however, some dinner meal preparation is required. If you like to cook and laugh, we will love you! You will have your own room with a queen sized bed. We always need lots of help and love hosting. We have been hosting for several years now and encourage you to check out the reviews that other helpers have left for us as well as our website. We are very flexible on how long the work term is and can accommodate 1 month or longer if the fit is right. We are often in need of help so don't be shy about emailing us. Minimum age of 21 is preferred. Our facility is located at the north end of the picturesque Okanagan Valley and only minutes from the Trans-Canada Highway and downtown Salmon Arm. We are 5 mins from the fabulous Shuswap Lake, which is a major tourist destination for summer lake activities, plus we're close to the Larch Hills Mountain Bike Trails. We are primarily a boarding and show facility, so working with horses is very limited as our clients own and ride their own horses. Send us an email if our property sounds like somewhere you'd like to spend some time because we'd love to hear from you :) Cheers, Sonya & King
Région: PiedmontMy partner (66, Belgian) and I (55, British) live in a spot of Piemonte paradise, restoring a 34 room country house with 1.5 hectares of mixed use garden, orchard, vegetable garden, vineyard and woods. Left almost abandoned for more than 20 years, it is a careful re-invigoration that we are doing. (House and gardens) With only the 2 of us, pace is slow. I'm an Architect with 25 years experience in the field of Project Management of International Hospitality projects, and my partner has more than 40 years experience in the field of Real Estate. His other skills and passions are Botany and Cooking. (he is expert at both). With our professional backgrounds we might sound too professional, but what we're looking for are volunteers who know what their owns skill and capabilities are. We welcome volunteers with enthusiasm too, but appreciate that some tasks might not suit them, depending on time of year (garden work particularly) or experience for building assistance. Our volunteers have provided us with much of the help commitments during summer 2013. As in previous years, for 2014 we encourage our volunteers to plan a 2 week involvement, where a project can be the focus with its completion. We have amended our headline photo as Autumn is making itself felt. Winter is not far, and although we hope for mild and sunny, the photos also shows the reality of snowfall in our paradise.
Région: ConnachtWe are currently looking for help with our turf farm in Co. Galway My partner are looking for help this summer on our turf farm in County Galway. We have no children and no pets.
Région: OkinawaSix months of the year I live in a small Okinawan fishing and farming village and run a two room guest house with my long time friend Sayori San. We need help with the gardening and the house cleaning and can offer one or two people their own bedroom upstairs. We can help you learn Japanese language and culture. I can take you around the island snorkeling, hiking, biking, shopping, paragliding, surfing, kayaking, eating etc. I hope you are interested! I love company. A note about Rural Okinawan Culture: This community is not a modern urban Japanese community. When I am in residence I must change my behavior and my clothing in order to be accepted and not cause trouble for my hosts. While the independent western woman I am rolls my eyes at such things as wearing the right shaped bra and always covering my crotch such that the outline never shows (as would happen if I were to tuck my shirt into my pants), I adopt an attitude of learning from the culture I am visiting rather than insisting on my right to dress and act in total freedom. If you were to decide to stay with us, there will be an on going conversation about how your actions are perceived by your hosts community. In addition, people under the age of 20 are still considered children, minors, in Japan. You are not allowed to drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, drive cars, vote or make life decisions such as engagement for marriage until you are 20. Thus, workaway volunteers younger than 20 will find their activities here even more restricted than those older than 20. Having said all of that, Okinawa is really interesting and may very well steal your heart. It is one of the few places in the world where women run the religion as documented in Susan Sered's book "Women of the Sacred Groves: Divine Priestesses of Okinawa" If you have an interest in a society that is fundamentally different than your own, our village is one place where you can observe that difference. It will open your mind. Plus, Okinawa is drop dead gorgeous and the people will treat you like family right after you meet.
